Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting we bring back the old days for evils, but that finding new ways to make it challenging might be the answer.

I don't think they should get guild-style titles. Just something like what others have suggested. "Apprentice to Ashiwi" or something. And I don't know how long it should last.
