I would have to agree with Thanuk, it would make it a bit more complicated, however I think the slow progress of some of the interesting ideas such as defense formation could be added in eventually. A more likely approach of reducing spell damage by a certain percentage, in addition to, mob hit poin...

I think the over all idea is great, and good for melee classes; however, from a class grouping perspective, there is still no real advantage to bring along a ranger over a warrior. Maybe give some or more of the offense skills to the Ranger/Dire class? I really like the mana idea since it is already...

If you make melee a much more important part of the game, there is plenty of reasons to bring both;). Rogue can scout, lure, garrote, assasinate, pick locks, trip, do damage, poison. But no matter how the ranger changes it will never be a 'needed' class. It shouldn't be a needed class, its an auxil...

Archery completely nullifies 95% of all of the skills a ranger has. That doesn't invalidate their ideas even though they are not rangers, it is still HIGHLY contructive. Is your reason because you play a Ranger, that what you say should be set in stone? Well there are times when things just have to change, and I think more and more people are come to realize that the archery skill as a defining skill for the niche class would be great, and most importantly it fits in theme wise as a class. Well Malia beat me to this subject, but going to post it anyway P-), so it doesn’t get lost in that thread. My friends and I were talking about what to do give ranger a real niche. Another suggestion would be to downgrade mob hp by like 20-30% and reduce caster damage by the same amount. Net effect would be that melee classes hit and damage would go up, with out any eq change or rebalancing. Now the tanking abilities: a possibility would be to reduce the effectiveness of spell...

I don’t think rangers “lack” in damage, as it stands right now they perform similar melee damage output with rogues. I believe even with the melee damage upgrade, rangers will still be in the same boat, because the rogues will benefit as well.
