Most of what you read is being blown out of proportion. Yes, some things are bad, but the government is in some cases doing the right things. We have help for the banks and lending. I just wanted to throw in that most people don't believe OPEC nations can cut production much. Other than Saudi Arabia, oil is their only source of hard currency. Cutting production would result in less money. This was a strategy that Reagan used very succesfully against the Soviets if you read the ...

Right Corth, with the anchor of retirement benefits for the union people, the US car makers are simply not viable. Bankruptcy will dissolve the retirement benefits and they can go back to making cars instead of being focused on how to pay retirees.

Actually, CPI doesn't look at home prices going up or down. It looks at "rental equivalence" or "equivalent rent" which is quite different than a home's value.
Also, minimizing it helps with the cpi interest portion on TIPS and I Bonds.

I always get a good chuckle out of the "Depression" stuff. I equate what is going to to the crash of 1907. If the government wasn't throwing money at the problem and lowering rates, then we could go into a Depression. As long as tax rates don't rise, and real and quantitative rates stay lo...
