IMO, new invasions like smoke and gith got it right with badass mobs that load at entrance, so why can't the same be applied to Jot? Like a lot of posters pointed out before, you could load a whole group of fire giants or whatever instead of them trolls. I also think that the 12 player rule is weak,...

Same deal for me, haven't been able to access the mud from home and a traceroute reveals that the connection is stuck at atdn.net. Same router even.
Fortunately, work traffic goes thru a different backbone, so I've been managing somewhat. :)

Something in the vein of MOO3 and been getting good reviews is Galactic Civilizations. You can buy and download it online while waiting for the CDs to be sent to you at http://www.stardock.com. Cygwin
The easiest way to run and test a mud on Windows is to install Cygwin. It's basically a UNIX environment/emulation layer running under Windows. You can find it at http://www.cygwin.com. Once you have this installed, you can compile and run your mud from this environment. It's good for a testmud or s...

Targeted Silence
Well, my argument against targeted silence was mainly due to the number of stun spells we have available. It makes combat more proactive and frantic, rather than just spamming silence hoping one hits and silences a mob for the next 30 seconds. Raise the rate and duration at which a mob can be stunne...

I don't like ZoneAlarm that much mainly because it's too confusing to setup, but I have found a good alternative. Go to http://www.agnitum.com and download the Outpost firewall. It's as good as ZoneAlarm, plus easier to configure.

That makes them even more useful to a group then they used to be. That can't really be disputed. True, but what's your point? I believe Corth's Not-So-Hidden agenda is to remerge the defensive and offensive spec caster classes into Sorcerers. After thinking things thru (and looking at Xisi's posts)...

Invoker Damage
That makes them even more useful to a group then they used to be. That can't really be disputed. True, but what's your point? That you don't want _any_ damage from spells? That you want long, drawn out fights with multiple memouts? Even if you theoretically remove invokers from the game, who's your...

Invoker Damage
I anticipate that the downgrade in area damage will not have a lasting impact as long as we can make up for it by bringing more invokers. But how many can you bring in a zone group? The most I've seen is 4 in FP and AP, where areas don't matter as much and spells like sandblast and fell frost are i...

Hmm, I thought that Windows NT 4.0 and above was already SMP aware, but like Sarvis pointed out you can set the affinity for which program runs on which processor, but the improvements are basically nil. Only SMP aware programs should be able to utilitize your SMP setup, like Adobe Photoshop (and Qu...

Java vs VB
Hmm, difficult comparison, though you are correct that they should be teaching VB.NET due to the only reason that VB 6.0 classes and functions will be deprecated once VB.NET is marketed extensively to developers (actually, it's happening right now). I think one of the reasons your college is making ...

Absolutely
I agree 100%. A lot of key class abilities/spells fall in the level 15-25 range. Several of these skills/spells also let's you approach the game in a slightly different way, raising a lot of new questions. Also, I think the level limit for NHC was put in before the experience fix that let's you fly ...
