The Crossfire thing was a special case. According to Carlson, he stayed for at least an hour after the show to continue lecturing their staff.

Here's the Daily Show clip where he discusses the appearance. He really hated Crossfire.

My thought on it is that he has a very low opinion of himself, bordering on depression and regardless of his actual ability to influence people, but I may be projecting.

I think it's a request for better information filtering. Fox News watchers say they're adept at pulling the facts out of various news sources and ignoring the bias - perhaps you should compile them appropriately, and post that analysis instead of a link, so we could have a discussion on the topic.
