Hulburg consists of a number of subspecies of beholders, many of which have significantly weaker abilities than their full beholder kindred. When the changes were implemented, I reviewed Hulburg's encounters with the assistance of one of the zone leaders, and modified the loads where applicable to m...

This is quite true Ragorn. The DC's on the eyebeams will be adjusted as well to more appropriately reflect the difficulty beholders are meant to present. This is part of the re-evaluation process that I mentioned above, but it does merit mention that the virtue of requiring an attack roll means that...

Unfortunately, I cannot say I have observed anybody regularly 'two-manning' dragons. The same cannot be said for beholders. That said however, a critical element of beholders will be the fact that their eyebeams will be treated as rays, and thus requiring of a hit roll to have an effect. As with man...

Roughly about a year ago, the code that reset a rot timer once a preserve was cast, was removed. It made little sense that as soon as a preservative spell was cast, the rot process would increase. Additionally, all preserve spells cast upon a player corpse are logged and that would have been part of...

Sarvis, an equally valid question that will come up will be 'well we can't get a ranger, I guess a rogue will do' That's one of the points of the whole gameplay extensive revision. All of these old prejudices you are hanging onto tenaciously won't apply. A warrior won't be the only class that can bl...

Put into game terms for you Sarvis, barbarians gain in strength and stamina (Rage gives bonus to STR and CON). All classes gain in them at a certain progression, the barbarian class, perhaps it is misnamed and should be called berserker, but the barbarian class is able to gain extra boosts from time...

I'm actually neither in the USA nor dissatisfied with my own company's policies. You are correct, it is the trade-off you accept when you remain as a purchased services employee over a permanent contract. I simply used it as an example of how a company can be considered at the leading edge in terms ...

You'll also note Ragorn mentioned failing a saving throw. There is a 'massive damage' rule in that when you take more than X amount, I believe X = 50, from a single attack you have to make a fortitude save or die immediately. A critical on a sneak attack performed by perfect assassin would quite lik...

Toril 1.0 was originally designed with DnD 2nd edition in mind. The implementation of that recreation may have fallen short in many arenas, however the intent is there. The numbers and scaling of tabletop to the mud is actually a pretty basic linear equation, and to the best of my knowledge will rem...

I know the specifics. I know the numbers, precisely where the bonuses fall. What works well against this that and the other thing. I have nothing against strategy; for instance the popular opinion was that Sarell's time-saving strategy in Tiamat would be changed after the first run. This is simply a case of the stun happening in between 'ticks' so to speak. The duration on the stun is short, and started and stopped before the spellcasting check happened. The board has been littered, for years, of similar examples with shieldpunch and/or charge. It's the exact same principle why...

Not to burst any bubbles, or confirm or deny well, anything, but the proc on those gauntlets was written by a combined effort between Mielikki and Dugmaren. In short, well before Toril 2.0 was conceived and initiated. Though I will agree they do seem well suited to somebody who doesn't wield a weapon.

At this point, we're trying to simply intercept instances of where it occurs since running it down hasn't worked out so well. Certain high level, often called 'class defining' quest spells will be limited to specialists in those schools. I'm with Ifin here. The hands-off approach has really turned me off to the game. An important distinction to make is that on the MUD, earthquake is a low level spell that, as Gormal states, just causes the ground to shake. A ghost is animated at the same level as the necromancer - whether it is done through casting the spell or other means. Thus if you are of a level to fail Beltyn's burning blood, then your ghost will be as well. Mob spell failure uses the same rules as PC spell failure. If you have an example of a g...
