I used to run a FidoNet BBS over 9600 baud. Later was 14.4k, then 28.8, multi-node, etc... It was my system, my phone line, my work, my money. I let people use my computer and phone lines... for free. They were my guests. I respected them, and they respected me. But I had the last word. There was no...

Charisma by common definition has nothing to do with looks. You may equate it with looks. You may think the handsome car salesman is more "trustworthy" than the fat ugly one. You may believe the slender, blonde sales rep knows more about her product than the mustache wearing female sales associate. ...

How is Open Alpha gonna work?

I haven't read any news about it yet, but how is the Open Alpha gonna work exactly? Are people just gonna log into the mud and sit around playing and trying to break stuff on their own, when *POOF* an Admin pops in and points, "I want you, you and you - stat. We're doing tests on Dragon Procs and sa...

If you bought a nice house in a nice part of the not-so-hip part of town 5 years ago, today you could sell that house for 2 or 3 times that amount, since you're in the hip-gotta-have-it part of town now.

I think the graph bar is a bad idea anyways. From Toril: After a few levels, some instruction in the ways of talking to your guildmaster and the exp command, you could see if you were "grinning", halfway, well on your way, etc. I remember running to the guild during a break of exp and telling my bud...

Such is the case with all Unix based creations. I've found that when I'm interviewing programmers, I'll ask them what a makefile is and how they use stdin and stdout. If they can answer, I know I've found someone who can *do* something. I think most people started Sojourn like this, but I'm not sure...

Database driven Mud

I posted a portion of this in another topic as a reply, but I felt it should go here if I really wanted a discussion about it. I had an idea awhile back, but I dunno if this has ever been attempted. A Mud is made up of a data and code designed to interprete the data. How feasible would it be to have...

Actually, you don't have to be a proven leader to lead a group. You just have to be known. I lead Brass after I came back from my hiatus. I had forgotten everything. Just an idea taken from D&D 3rd Edition - Assassin prestige class?

It would be neat if hiding first would improve your chances of hitting. But I dunno if you want it improving your damage. Cause ya know... if PC's get it, then mobs get it, too. So rogue mobs would mean a REALLY bad day.
