In memory of a dear friend . . .

Postby Guest » Tue Apr 30, 2002 2:56 am

Hello Friends.

I learned today of the loss of my friend Kobei. My heart skipped a beat as his wife told me this tragic news. I've known him for what seems like ages and right now I feel as if a part of me died too. He had a great sense of humor, was funny as hell, and I just loved to zone and talk with him. We spoke of his wife, kids and pretty much anything that came into mind.

It's not going to be the same, I know things can never be but what is it going to be like without him. My thoughts right now are with his wife and family. I wish I could be there for them, to help or lend a shoulder to lean on.

I find myself reflecting on a lot of things right now but mostly the missing sounds of him. I was better for having known him. I will truly miss you my friend.

I've kept away from posting, but I couldnt help but reply here. I did not know Kobei as well as I would have liked, but the very few times we grouped, he seemed like a great guy. My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife and family. This is truly saddening.
Good people are few and far between. He will be missed.

Kobei was a dear dear friend to me throughout my years playing here. I am so sad about his passing. I remember all the fun times he and I shared. I will always remember them, and him. My memories of him will live on and so will he live on in my heart and Im sure in the hearts of all who knew him.

I will see you again, my dear friend. Of that I have no doubt.

Amid all struggles there is always a bright shining light, it turns back the darkness and conquers the fright, only in time can we know why now was right. A bard with the virtue of a knight, fighting past demons in game and in life, he helped bring us to a new epic height, and always will he be in our memories this night, so Kobei may I bid to you a final goodnight.

Always,
Brian

One of the few true bards of the mud, I'd known him since Toril, years ago. I offer my condolences to his family, for it saddens me.

You were taken from us too soon
to a land of mystery and peace
tears fall from my eyes
as I remember your sweet heart
and even though your place remains empty
your light will forever shine
deep in my heart
my love will never die
so I open my hands
and bow my head
and remember all the good times
of a bard who sang and played
watch over me
smile upon me
and I will see you one day again

My deepest condolences to his family and friends. I and others shall miss him very much.

Love,
Hei Rim

I wanna cry.

I'm completely at a loss. It's ironic how someone we've never met can touch everyone so much. The last thing I remember about Kobei was giving him a hug as we completed an exp run in monistary... God Damnit...

My best for Kobei's family. I share your pain. I have lost only a few close friends, Kobei was one I knew well and never met.

Kobei was a good friend. Good bye, K... I love ya dude. There are no words to any poem or song any more.

A Huge Garden Path
-E -W

A small alabaster statue of a half-elf strumming a lyre is here.

Carved of the finest stone, this statue is intricately created by a master mason. It
depicts a half-elf sitting on a stone, placidly strumming a lyre, humming to himself.
The entire statue emanates a solemn feeling, a feeling of loss and longing. That
feeling quickly gives way to a feeling of joy of times gone by and the love that this
wonderful person gave and received.

This is a small tribute to one of the fallen members of the Sojourn family. Kobei
contributed positively in every way possible and will be remembered and missed. We
are all considered blessed by being touched by him even in this small way.

OMG. I came to know Kobei and his wife well over the past year and am absolutely crushed to learn of his passing. My sympathy goes out to his wife and family.

I had not seen Kobei for a bit until a couple of days ago and we laughed and spoke about the mud and real life.

Kobei you will be missed.

Tas if there is anything I can do to help all you have to do is ask.

This is going to be a long day now.

A friend for years of mischief and adventure, it is truly a sad day. The band is silent, the strings of the harps do not sing, our bard is passed.

I am numb, I wish the best for his wife and kids.

As i sit here crying i can remember all the times we shared, I met Kelly about the same time I met my husband Telaerin/Darrin.... we were friends in real life and on line...he was a warm friendly always encouraging and uplifting man.

He always made me smile and laugh and I looked forward to a tell that said hello doll ....

whether playing pool, darts, or mudding you could feel his positive energy engulf you.

Tas/Jamee, you have our phone number and address, I can also send it again to the earthlink address, you know we are not far and our love to you and yours...if you need ANYTHING at any time please do not hesitate.... we are here for you and share your loss tho minimally compared to you.

even if you need to just cry or rage please call... ok?

Kelly/Kobei you are loved and misses....may God enfold you in his love

love always

I didn't get to know Kobei super-well during our time in Wyrm together, but I will always remember his joyful tunes and his love for the game, for life, and seemingly for everyone around him, whether he knew them or not. You will be sorely missed, Kelly. Image

Tas, I wish there was a way that all of us scattered the world over could do something more for you and your family in this time, but suffice to say that if you need a hug or a shoulder to cry on, I think I speak for all of us when I say that we're here for you.

whoa.

that's so sad... Kobei... and some of my RL friends who knew him from back in the day never got to come back to soj to say goodbye... I'm shocked. I never really got to talk to him after the new soj, either.

Man, we talk all the time about people leaving, but when someone is truly gone, that's really a great loss.

Oddly enough I was listening to Wish You Were Here, when I linked in here through another BBS where someone was nice enough to post about this.

I've been gone for what's probably too long and never knew Kobei but feel a loss no less.

I find it truly amazing how a game that relies solely on words and ansi bonds such strong frienships.

May his family find comfort that he no doubt dwells on in a loving embrace.

And may his friends find comfort that he now strings Sojourns tales from above. And what tales they are I'm sure.

Dear Sojourn Friends,
I want to thank you for all the wonderful things you have said about Kelly aka Kobei. What you saw on the mud was what you got in RL. Our children and I were extremely touched by the tribute of the statue. It is amazing to me how much we come to think of people we almost never get to see as part of our family. Some of you I feel like I know almost everything there is to know, others of you I hope to have that opportunity. Kelly loved mudding here, even when he was griping about the bard problems Image I am sure that his eternal rest contains a computer and a bowling alley. Thank you all again for you kind words and prayers. They are truly a comfort at this time.

Sincerely,

Jamee aka Taserea,

I have known Kob since Soj1, becoming guildmates in the Wyrm together at the same time so many years ago in Soj1, now .. years later when many of the original Wyrms have left, moved up, etc. and so many new faces and new players who never knew Somerled or the original Wyrm .... Kob has never forgotten and every time we have been logged on at the same time we always went out of our ways to "see" each other .... its was always comforting to see an "old face" who remembers the early days.

I dont have the words to express my sorrow for the loss ... and for his family ... my prayers go out to his wife and children.

Jamie,
My heart goes out to you and your children. I know Kelly will be greatly missed by all his friends on the MUD, but most by his family.

Kobei was one of the most friendly personas on the MUD, and as I got to know him I realized it wasn't just his persona, it was his personality. For about eight years, three phases of the MUD, we still remained in contact.

Kelly, you will be missed!

I am very saddened by this news. I know I am not currently an active member of this community - but it was a very big part of my life for 5+ years.

I remember my bard (Altheria) growing up with Kobei around.

I will keep Taserea and their children in my thoughts and prayers. I know this is a difficult time for you all.

In Sympathy,

This is the legacy you left us, Kobei .. it speaks volumes for the kind pf person you were, and will always be, in our hearts. I hope it brings comfort to your wife and children to know that faceless, nameless people felt this way about you... Our loss is tremendous, but I cannot even fathom the loss of a lifemate and father... I'm sure you are looking down from where ever our souls go, and smiling softly, maybe even shedding a tear for those that you leave behind...

To have lost a man so young, in the prime of his life, such tragedy, will this open the eyes of fathers and mothers all over? Will this make them check insurance policies, trust accounts, investments and bank accounts? Will it force them to view their own mortality, and wonder if their family will be taken care of should they pass on? I, for one, hope it does....

We have a saying in the US Navy when we either lose a shipmate, or when he or she passes into what we call the Fleet Reserve....

"Fair Winds and Following Seas"

May the winds be calm and the seas be gentle ...

May the songs of your lyres, fiddles, and drums stay in our hearts for ever ...

-Jennifer (I was Shalia Rhyvermyst, halfelf druid)
