How do you pronounce your char\'s name?

Postby Wobb » Sat May 11, 2002 4:04 am

Through the years I always found it funny when talking to another mudder in real life how they pronounce other players names. Obviously things like Wobb and Blung don't have much of a problem...but what about:

Baikalisan? (by cal iss on?)
Ghimok? (gihmok or jimok?)
Erevan (air eh vonn?)
Miax (meeax?)
Treladian (not even gonna attempt)
Todrael (todd rye ell?)
Vynigumba (vinny goomba?)
Disoputlip (help!)
Iyachtu (bless you!)

Hehe, post your own name and how its pronounced! Just curious, even things as simple as Varia i've heard 3 different ways
Vareea, vaireea, and var-yuh!

You have to say my name with some pleasant surprise. Like "Oh look, A SHE WEE!"

I say the first one when I pronounce this character's name.

Dlur I pronounced just like blur but with a D.

Ruld I pronounced just like Dlur except backwards, to give that Ozzy/Alice Cooper kill yourself backwards record feel.

I have actually gotten this question before, which surprised me.

Zouve rhymes with groove.

It does not rhyme with suave, stove, or sieve.

Now, about pronouncing Ferentybylynxaferix, there I'm stumped.

If you were Dutch you'd know what I mean. It's not 'Ch' like in cheeze, it's the Dutch pronunciacion and there is no English equivalent.

Galkar = Gall + Car
Gragt = Grag + T
Cordan = Core + Dan (not dawn)
Telese = Te + lease

Funny though, all these names over the years, this is how I thought they sounded...

Nilan = Nee+Lawn
Nokie = it is No+key, rhymes with okie, right?
Zouve = rhymed with stove
Xebes = kinda on syllable - Zeebs
Touk = rhymed with Talc

This is a kewl thread, clears up a lot of confusion, lol. Will help with tellin people about someone on the mud using their names and not 'some person' lol.

From day one I thought the name Nokie was so cool because I said it "No Key," which is how many keys Nokie needs to get past a locked door.

And now I find out it rhymes with cookie?
