Looking for Anime! :D

Postby Jenera » Mon Nov 25, 2002 12:22 pm

I've never had the resources to download the anime I've wanted to see over the years and so I am taking full advantage of my uncle's cable modem and burner.

I was wondering if any of you know some places I can find the movies, like for neon genesis evangelion or record of loduss war. Tried Kazaa/Morpheus and got a couple of episodes but they were pretty bad quality. Would appreciate it Image

1. Record of the Lodoss War is an OAV or TV series, depending on which series of it you encounter, not a movie.

2. As both of these series/movies have been fully licensed, downloading either would be crossing the line from fansubs to piracy and hence something illegal the staff will not want on this board. Fansubs are a gray area regarding copyright laws that only remain a gray area when a series/movie is unlicensed in regions outside Japan. Fansubbers and people running legitimate fansub servers/channels stop work and distribution on things once they are picked up by domestic companies.

I use Kazaalite, and have probably 100-150 gig of anime downloaded and burned out.

Some are bad quality, some are good. You need to get a utility to pump your participation level, or you don't get the good links.

Just be selective and check what you download, especially sizewise. The bigger the file, the better quality usually.

I got all of X, Inu Yasha, Love Hina, Sakura Diaries, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Adventure Kid, Golden Boy, tons of Hentai, and many many more.. Just from there. Image

I've found that either IRC, and visiting some of the various fansub chats are your best bet (Animeco, Anime Junkies, AnimeOne, Soldats, etc.), though Direct Connect file share program works fairly well too.

Don't go for the licensed stuff though..support what has been licensed and buy it. Besides, there's enough _good_ stuff that hasn't been licensed yet that the fansub groups are doing. Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Witch Hunter Robin, Figure 17, and of course Juuni Kokki!

I know I was on a site that had the entire series of Final Fantasy: Unlimited (Soldat fansub) available for download. I burned 'em off of a friend (who found them the hard way Image), and they were pretty good quality. Make sure you have the DivX .avi codec, a lot of these sorts of things will probably need it.

I always thought Outlaw star was incredibly wacky. You have space, magic, artificial life, science, cowboy western stereotypes, and just about everything but the kitchen sink thrown into one series.

That's what I really liked about it, Mori. Image

Hey Branthur, I just downloaded Samurai Deeper Kyo this week.. It any good?

Also: If I could afford to pay my rent, I would definitely buy this stuff.. I already own about 75 DVDs of anime.. I just can't afford my bills right now, so no entertainment fund!

Samurai Deeper Kyo is quite good from what I've had a chance to see..of course my time for watching anime has been at a bit of a minimum lately, so I've only had a chance to watch about the first 5 eps.

Personal favorite right now is Juuni Kokki, though GITS: Stand Alone Complex is really good too.

Should see which newsgroups our uncle has access too. The selection that usually comes with a local isp suck, but hey, what are you going to do :0

Currently Licensed:
Noir
RahXephon
Vandread (Stage I & II)
.hack//SIGN
Angelic Layer (Shojo Battlebots by CLAMP)

Unlicensed:
Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu (Japanese try Jungle Comedy?)
Witch Hunter ROBIN
Samurai Deeper Kyo
Juuni Kokki
Figure 17 (one that is an aquired taste..most might not like it)
Flame of Recca

Most that I can think of off the top of my head here at work..
