Requiem for a Dream

Postby kwirl » Thu May 24, 2001 7:29 am

anyone ever see the movie Pi? black/white flick? well, if you are one of the enlightened, his new movie, Requiem for a Dream just came out on tape, and I watched it tonight. Hands down spectacular. Powerful images, intense acting, all around - thought provoking, this movie had BETTER win a lot of awards, because it sure as hell deserves them. wow. If you saw trainspotting, then you would also appreciate this movie, but anyone of the "just now growing up in a shitty world" generation will appreciate this movie.

I loved PI....
I'm one of those geeks who memorized PI to like 20 places in High school..hrm letsee...3.14159265358...that's as far as I can remember today.

In any case...I was in the video store, talking to the BUSINESS MANAGER of the video store and I was reading the back of Requiem for a Dream DVD. It looked awesome and I was about to go rent it when the manager and I got into a movie conversation. She was exclaiming how she really liked action movies and this and that...and I said I was in the mood for something thought-provoking, a good conversation piece...she sent me home with Vertical Limit.

Sure as hell 8 minutes into that movie I was on the mud. God da** I was pissed! Plan on renting Requiem for a Dream this saturday...will let you know my thoughts!

Loved PI!!!!!

Just bought the DVD, so I wouldn't have to rent the crappy censored version.

I'll let you know what I think Image

Haha Wobb.. dat funny.. I didn't memorize Pi, but I'm one of those geeks that memorized e.

e = 2.7182818284590452353602874713526624977572470936999595...

I had a few more but I lost them and gotta review a bit.. it's a rare thing I get to cite them to anybody *blink*

Ah, but that is just a decimal approximation. What is the mathematical definition of e?

Nope. Natural log is just an apllication of the value of e. But what is the actual value and from whence is it derived (its mathematical definition). (Hint: Requires calculus).

Isn't it the derivative of ln X = 1/x?

I haven't taken math in years.

What is PI? Do you eat it?

Heh, last math class I took was my freshman year in college, Algebra 101 Image Only reason for that is because it is a requirement for graduation. I can happily say that I never had to take another math course again Image BTW: I used to beat up people who knew any decimal places for PI past 3.14 Image (j/k)

Hmm, how about:

lim(n -> inf) (1 + 1/n)^n

or the power series : 1 + 1/1! + 1/2! + 1/3! + ...

If I recall hehe

Yep. That's the definition I show mu students in calculus. The power series would come in advanced calc.
