To the Board\'s Admins: Solution to Anon\'s

Postby Teyaha » Fri Sep 21, 2001 2:20 am

After seeing this Anon and Anon2 freak attempt to disrupt our community, and not wanting it to escalate to a point where either a) the mud shuts down or b) the board shuts down or c) both shut down, I ask that we implement email registration for anyone wanting to post on the boards, on any boards.

Nah, it's a simple site ban or IP Gateway ban. There are a million ways to remove a problem poster from a bulletin board like this one.

I got an idea for dealing with Anon. Just live with it, he's no more annoying than some of the others here. Smiles.

There are not a lot of ways to block people from public type forums. tons of proxys out there that will masquerade your ip if you want them too ect. Bout the only way you could stop it is if you require payment to register accounts or characters over level 10 prior to getting an account.

Free email accounts nullify your suggestion teyaha. There are scripts to create accounts on most free services. Spam mailers use these type of scripts.

Sojourn is great the way it is. He has the right to free speech, yes, and the boards moderators have the right to remove anything he says that goes overboard, at their discretion. We have the right to ignore him completely, which is usually the best plan when you're dealing with annoying children who just want attention.
He knows Soj is non-pkill and isn't going to become pkill any time soon, and that many of the people here are here because they prefer a non-pkill mud (notice I didn't say all, so don't go there).
He's only here to talk smack, or he would at least identify himself and let people know what char he plays on the mud. The biggest problem here is that people are letting him rile you up to the point of posting whole topics about him! Talk about giving him exactly what he wants.
Sheesh, ignore the pest.

I usually just ignore his posts and skip right over them. I suggest everyone else do the same. In the game of grief play, it's no fun when your words don't affect anyone and they simply ignore you.

Sok does a backflip.
Sok says, 'Ha!'.

Sok says, 'Get a real haircut!'

I'm curious, what have i said that is so bad? heh, i think the worste thing i may have said so far is this is a newbie mud, thats my opinion, if its insulting to you, oh well. I have been sarcastic with the stupid posts about idle time out, "stealing" kills, and other little things that newbies worry about. If you can't take criticism, you are all going to have tough lives.

Oh, i've said that PK is better and that this mud would rock PK, if THATS insulting to you, your pathetic.

You may like Pkill, we do not. It requires almost no skill to sit in an inn and repeatedly kill newbies.

I intended to not post on these, but resigned myself to a single post.

Anon: What you like and what we like are two totally seperate things. If you feel this mud requires no skill, I invite you to level to 50 here, constantly get groups, show your skill, and get the equipment you claim is so easy to get. Until then, I invite you to keep opinions as broad as this to yourself, and lie low for a while.

I've played Duris. I've played Basternae. Sojourn is infinitely more difficult, infinitely more complex, and infinitely different.

If you don't like the mud, why post here. To get a rise out of people? I expect that from my 9 year old cousin. I expect that of a 10th grader. I expect that of a child.

Someone in another thread made an excellent point about age ranges. This mud has the highest age average of any mud I've experienced. That should speak something in and of itself.

Now with that, I leave you to your flames, and posts of nonsense. Playing innocent won't work either.

Have a nice day. Image

Ok, I understand Anon has just as much right to post here as anybody else, but what I don't understand is why he/she would want to. What thrill is found in posting about a MUD that you don't even like? Often times one or many players of Sojourn will start a thread on the BBS regarding something that they don't like and would like to see changed. But if the only positive thing you can find about the MUD is that it would "rock with pk," why bother wasting your time critizing it? Clearly the realms of Sojourn do not fall within your standards, and for that we appologize. But the fact remains, we will not change, and your constant rants are simply annoying. If getting a rise out of people was your goal, then congratulations, you have sucessfully bothered some people. Most of us have simply written you off as a problem-child.

i agree with salen, let it go, we do have the first amendment, but i have read it and to me all it realy says is we have the say hey the president sucks our government is fcking up things to that effect, not porn is cool or whutever certainly doesnt aply to private organizations, stickly censorship by the government.... is it so hard to delete a post that isnt appropriate, are we such little babies we cant take being ripped on a little? if you dont like whut he says so much ignor him these sorts of posts only feed into his little trip hes got going. hes yet to say anything i would want to protect my kid from...just let it go, if you are so offended by his comments do not dignify them with a response...he calls us whinners and babies and all we can do is whine summore...lol is pretty funny if you ask me.

He probably is a 9th grader =)
That would be ironic, eh.

I do recall a certain very high level squid being about 12 yrs old in RL.

Thank you Turxx, and you are right, i have NOT said anything so offensive that you would need to shield your children from it. And i never said i did not like the mud, i said the players were newbies and that it would be BETTER with PK. Whoever said that in PK all you do is sit and kill newbies at the inn, you must have been one of the twinks people purge on PK muds, nobody does that. In PK you have the thrill of the hunt and the fear of losing your EQ. You have competition, you get to talk to your opponents over the boards about who you believe won the fight. You lose your eq, so you have the challenge of re-equiping and trying to reach the same level of eq you once had. You try to out do the other side of the racewar with more frags and people get to see who is the better player. Zoneing is far easier than PK. Believe me, i've done both on many different muds.

BTW, Cherza or whatever his name is plays here, correct? If you think i'm a "troll" you should see some of his past posts on other boards, heh. Someone piss him off and see what happens.

how about something in preferences where we can just ignore people's posts? as in not even receive them, that'd be nice. all anon/anon2 does is create spam that i skip over and i don't want to see it.

I have to agree Anon2.. that is lame for them to go through that just so you can skip his few posts(most of which i think are amusing).. he does't seem to excessively post.. although i really don't think our players are noobs since many of us have been playing muds for 10+ years and have experience on both PK and nonPK muds.. its just a play preference type.. and to say we are noobs is rather insulting.. Image who are these players you met that you think we are newbies? and what makes you say we are newbies?

atleast backup your claims with some real evidence other than that we whine.. (everyone does that).. or that because we prefer exploration/killing mobs to doing pvp.. i just didn't care much for PvP because on Duris i quickly/easily found decent gear and ppl with the highest frags were newbie killers (don't tell me they aren't because i witnessed it Image i saw the doogie assassin with highest frags in the inn killing goodie newbies or ppl with no gear just for the frags (then he got guard whacked and i looted.. hehe.. was kinda fun doing that.. i made a decent assassin on there with that gear :P ) i just prefer exploring new zones and doing quests and things to killing other players.. its just not that fun to me.. ive been mudding for about 7 years myself.. some on pk muds.. so i don't think im a newbie to mudding or really to player killing.. so im not sure why are you saying we are newbies.. i think i could use more clarification Image

Of course your not all all newbies, that would be insane to say, but from the posts alone that i have seen, there are plenty of them here. I'd say 50% of the people who play here a inexperienced, 25% newbies, 10% know what they are doing and the last 15% are elite.

And i do try to be amusing, at least to my own sick self. CACKLE :P I'm really not serious about half the stuff i say, but its still fun to hear the replies. But thats only HALF i'm not serious about. Image
