New Class type
New Class type
Hiya people for those who know me,
Well alot of my friends were wondering about possible additions to sojourn class list.
1. Ninja (thief/mage)
2. Kensai (Warrior/mage)
3. Monk (Warrior/psionist)
4. Merc (Warrior/thief)
Well in regards to the first three classes I think it would be interesting if all started from there own island, or had to start south in calimport.
1. Ninja would be interesting would have basic thief skills expect steal, and pick locks, or the new enhancement skills. But they would get alot of mage transport spells; such as dim door, invis, teleport, fly. And for offensive spells would be like slow, ray of enfleeblement, and as to damage spells they would get none because they are a melee character class. This would be a fun class to play, with great group role, and easy to balance.
2. Kensai well in AD&D kensai can't wear armors, so alot of the times they were dualed as mage type. Basic we thought of the kensai as the ultimate fenser. They would get most warrior skills expect that they can't wear a shield, can't dual wield, and also can't bash, can't use two-handed weapons. But they get alot of mage abilities like in there 8th circle they would get say stone skin, and 9th would be haste, and 10th would be an offensive area spell like ice storm or something. Finally they would have a blur innate type skill.
3. Monks I think would be similiar but defiantly not the same. They would use psychic mana to change there body around, similiar to body weaponary in AD&D. As they got better they would be able to change thier arms into better weapons, and make there body harder and skin denser. And things like budda palm would be a change into a type of psychic blast.
4. Unlike the other 3 classes I think mercs make a good fit in the realm of sojourn. I always thought the assassin classes should actually have morphed into them; but what they did now is differently good. But I would give them skill of double backstab and they are only classes to have it, and most of the basic thief skills except pick locks and hide, and circle. After that make them the only class able to berserk, and I think people will play them more.
And thats it I wonder what people will think of this.

Well, the gods decided a while back that they didn't want the mud to have an oriental flavor. While the continent of Kara-Tur is to the east of the realms of Faerun, it's just not something the gods want to put in. And as has been mentioned, mercs were taken out once so I doubt they'd every be put back in. Being a mercenary is a profession, not a class. Actually, I doubt we'll see any new thief hybrids at all seeing as how thieves and assassins got combined into a rogue class due to annoyances balancing two similar classes.
Oh, and Kensai can't use magic weapons either and take a severe experience penalty if they use a weapon other than the only one they specialize in, things that BG2 decided not to implement . . .
But anyway, nice to see you even if I had to stomp on your friends' ideas =p

oh yeah Joth, and you may not remember me, but I remember you
Also I still occasionally talk to Pril/Prexus, Teflor, and Forilanol; if you remember 'em, they say hi! (man, I can't remember more of Pril or Forilanol's names, but I'm sure one had a druid, and... I just can't remember. Sigh.)
