Call them "diviners" or "augurers".
Give them all divination spells of all sorts, as well as a couple unique spells.
Would be yet another mage class, but not heavily offense *or* defense, and not illusion either. . . not even heavily battle-oriented.
example spell list (this would have to be worked over):
1st circle
detect invis, magic missiles, detect magic
2nd circle
minor c, burning hands, detect good, detect evil
3rd circle
shocking grasp, dispel invis, locate obj
4th circle
lit.bolt, faerie fog, sense life
5th circle
farsee (I forget, does this come earlier?), cone
6th circle
fireball, prismatic spray, clairvoyance
7th circle
fly?
Of course, this has to be fleshed out, but basically they would be really heavy on detection spells, with possibly a couple unique ones added in.
I see this being added in as an alternative to combat-heavy sorc types... people who plan to do absurd amounts of questing or just running around.
PS - I'm no sorc, I may be off by a circle or two for some of those spells... and some of those spells should even come a circle early (it *is* their specialty, spec divination at 20).

Perhaps, but it's more than just that.
Consider:
7th circle
infravision, fly
8th circle
locate corpse, power word blind (a sort of detection reversed)
9th circle
*Ultravision, scry remains, relocate
10th circle
*Revelation, *gate
Revelation
Similar but superior to the effects of the song of revelation, this spell is rumored to allow the caster to see not only hiding and invisible monsters, but to "see through" illusions and disguises, and give a bonus to finding hidden doors and objects.
I see such casters as being somewhat battle-deficient, but even more useful than enchanters for long quests.
And yes, they'd have to get true sight at 5th and dim at 6th. As well as some other junk I probably missed.
