Multi-Class idea
Multi-Class idea
How about we apply multiclass. Working like
a crossbreed between d&d 2nd and 3rd edition.
Rules.
-Max of two class combination.
-Some class combo restricted (Ex: No paly/ap)
-Benefits, penalties, and restrictions of both class are applied.
-All xp received is divided by half.
-One level for both class (Ex: Iktar Warrior/Shaman Level 30)
-Skill cannot max out (Cap at 75~85 something)
Example:
Iktar multiclasses to Warrior/Shaman.
-Hp gained per lvl is average of both class (It would be less then warrior, greater then shaman hp per lvl)
*Benefits
Can hit well with low Hit roll
Can use all skills like warrior
Can use all skills like shaman
Can use all spells like shaman
*Penalties
-Twice harder to level
-Can only use weapons that Shaman and warrior can use (no bits or 2h / 1h blud)
-Can only wear armors that Shaman and wariror can use
Just throwing some random idea out. Not good as straight class and I don't think it will unbalance game as well. Coz if youre warrior/cleric, u gunna have more hp but your heals won't be as good, qc won't hit as much, and you can't rescue as often (coz ure casting), etc.

I agree heartily with this; I was just about to post the suggestion when I saw your post.
I would play a multiclass for fun, but I wouldn't reroll Mori to do it.

Actually, here's another way that we could imp it that would be less harsh to the multiclassers.
Allow for a disparity between the two levels, but don't allow the difference to be greater than 10.
Thus, you could have a level 20 paladin/level 30 invoker.
However, each level would cost the combined total of xp, since it would be MUCH easier to xp. (1 paladin lvl + 1 invoker lvl = cost of 1 lvl.) And the higher level is used when determining what mobs you need to kill.

I can totally see only a couple really wicked pairs of classes. There'd always be the kinda useless pairs as well. You somewhat have warrior/cleric (paladin) and a very weak warrior/necro (A-P). I sure would like to see the true generic warrior/mage. Just gets magic missile, acid blast, fireball, chain lightning, etc. but absolutely nothing too strong. Lots of people say too strong or stuff, but there are those few who like soloing most their mud careers. A class like that would be very popular and not too useful (put caps on multi's for rescue, etc. so they're not much use.)
I like popping other ideas into threads. I'd like to see the monk class back too In a way, bard is kinda fun but the caps on the class are WAY too restrictive. 30 or so for hide/sneak . . . Yech! What's the point of having that _and_ invisible? Ah well. Youd know they're trying ( I know invisible is to help others that are around in the bard's group, but still) I don't understand why they can't just split the difference in skills. Give bard innate steal since they get it anyways. There's so many tiny changes that will always be requested/expected. Over all this mud is so well thought out and you can tell the gods really try to make fun and balance at the same time. *It's impossible to make everybody happy, but we all live to our best efforts anyways

Interesting idea, but the problem here is that exp is the only thing that there is an unlimited supply of. No matter how hard the exp curve for multiclasses is made, you will always end up with the max levels before long. The only way to balance them out would be to severely restrict them.
It might take a multiclass char an extra month or two of hard core exp to hit the max (40/50 for example) but they'd be far far superior to a lvl 50 single class.
Unless its like a lvl 40/50 warr/ranger

You guys all keep saying its going to be too powerful but i hope you guys are taking into fact that i suggested SKILL cap and PENALITIES cap.
For example:
You can do Rogue/Cleric but you can't use any piercing weapon unless its both roguable and clericable. You can't wear armor unless its both roguable and clericable and skill will be capped at lvl 75. and hp will be better than pure rogue but lower than pure cleric.
Another example:
Enchanter/Warrior
For goodies: Barbarians and dwarf. can't be enchanter so you have to be human, halfling or gnome.
So you'd have human hp and it will be lower than pure human warrior hp but higher than pure human mage. (so something like 350~400 nat hp at max con)
Your skill will be capped at 75 and you can only wield and wear armor that both enchanter and warrior can wear.
Now, rethink how powerful these classes will be. It's more versatile than being powerful.
Imagine level 50 invoker throwing force missile with master skills in invocation and spec. while multiclass invoker is throwing force missile with good skill in invocation and spec. That's a big difference in damage! Also keep in mind, with qc at only 75, it's not going to hit too often. Differnce is, the lower damage multiclass invoker is doing can be made up by other class skill he or she might posses.

A multiclassed invoker/cleric is still going to be MUCH MUCH more powerful than either single class. Unless the multi-classed invoker/cleric casts force missile at like 1/4 damage with 1/4 full heals, its going to be too powerful.
Theres no way you can tell me an invoker that can heal or stone himself is going to be hampered by a small (ie 25%) strength reduction. I really don't see much difference between a spell cast at skill 75 and at skill 100.
Just look at games like Ultima Online where you can either spec as a warrior or spellcaster or do both. Every single char there (unless its a craft mule) is a multiclassed warrior/mage.
Again, the only way I'd see multiclass working here without everyone switching to a multiclass char is to have really low level caps, like 30 or something.

Bah...small minded people. The game isn't about soloing (although fear leveling a warrior if you all him/her to stone/heal/wutever). The game is about power.
Think of the power of the three person group. Warrior/cleric, Warrior/enchanter, Warrior/invoker(or lich). Six person group warrior/cleric, warrior/enchanter, warrior/invoker, lich/invoker, lich/invoker, & shaman/lich. Who needs 15 player group? The hardest to level would be the ???poor??? warrior/cleric!
I know we just all shooting the breeze, but the only way this could EVER be implemented would be to make it so a multiclassed player could NEVER group. Then it would be a great pass the time thing, but totally destroy the must group Sojourn design.

ele/illus would be awesome in groups
stone self

lots damage/stuns/sil or 2
displaces....
perfect for groups or solo twinkys such as myself
rogue/mage would be pretty cool to rp though
as would cleric war
they are not as "great" multis but good for rp and fun
