I HATE summer

Postby Xisiqomelir » Sat May 14, 2005 6:10 am

Every year, this raging solar conflagration reminds me why a RPing a sun-blotting illithid appealed to me.

82 degrees today.

Yes, I suffered.

Try the south :(.. 105 degrees and 100% humidity, my fondest memory was watching other troopers pass-out in the swing-landing trainer.

My first year in college we arrived at the only non-air conditioned building on campus with temperatures outside reaching 117 degrees F and staying there throughout the night.

It was interesting. We slept outside on the sidewalk in masses, you know, 'cause it was cooler than inside the building. We would take turns volunteering to walk around waking people up and making them drink water.

After a few nights of this, we forcefully invaded the student memorial center and slept on sheets in the halls.

Damn. Great memories. Like 30 people picking you up in the middle of the night and throwing you into the fountain.

The summers where I grew up were like that nearly every day...100 on a June/July/August day was relatively mild. I remember being outside working (manual labor) for 8 hours in 118 degree weather. Thankfully it wasn't roofing, only baseball field maintenance.

Now, here in Washington...usually only hits 85 at most, last summer we had a couple 100 degree (MISERABLE) days. The humidity here, though, is a lot higher than in New Mexico.

You couldn't pay me to live in Florida in the summer...buncha damned fools. :P

It's not so bad by the coast. However, the more inland you get, the less sea breeze you're going to get. Orlando has to be one of the hottest concrete jungles in the southeast. Add to that heat the road rage by 40 million tourists, and you have the urban warzone.

Give me Tampa anyday!

I love washington summer weather. Out hear on the eastern part of the state it gets a bit hotter during the summer and averages around 90, which has gotten a bit worse IMO in recent years (Especially since Winter has dropped to being a 2 week period tops!). Fortunatly if your familiar with the region its pretty easy to maintain a decent tempurature indoors without AC. Leave all your doors/windows open at night to let all the cool air come in, then shut all your doors/windows/blinds during the day to keep the cool air trapped inside. I must say, after spending summers in places such as LA, Dallas and the Philippines I'm very satisfied with living here in terms of the summer weather.

My favorite season is Fall though. Something about it being overcast but still fairly warm makes me want to be outdoors. Its like Seattle but without the constant rain.

The rainy season here is only from October-May usually, despite the stereotype. The summers here are relatively warm and dry, with a very occasional rain. Most of the time they end up putting out forest fire alerts around the 4th of July. :P

We usually have lots of storms during the springtime (tornado season) in Oklahoma, but this year it's been incredibly dry. Our water level is very low, and if we don't get our springtime rain soon, we're going to have grassfires everywhere this summer, plus massive crop failures and water rationing at a record early date. Something about 110-120F encourages that. Of course, usually the humidity is so high it starts rolling off you as soon as you step outside, and the the air is really thick. I guess with no rain, we won't have to worry so much about the humidity!

It has been raining a fair bit here over the past week too..

Rain is really welcome these days in this country, 'cept here on the coast we don't need it nearly as much as "country" areas - most of which really, really need months of good rainfall badly.

Man I couldn't live in the dry/barren country areas partly cuz of the drought conditions alone :(

In our (coastal) area over the years, 40C (104F) was pretty much the upper limits of real hot summer days, perhaps a few at 44C max.
This last summer just gone the temp in the uncovered loading dock where I work hit 35-38C on several occasions (about 100F), that's hot enuff for me.

In warmer parts of the country tho, these become high 40'sC, even approaching 50C (122F) - that's insane, never experienced such heat, nor ever probably will or want to.

In general seasonal terms, making the most out of the outdoors when you are aqble is what it's all about..

For summer it's surfing, swimming, the beach, bbqs, beer, nice chilled chardonnay wine, and gazing at spectacular summer thunderhead clouds/storms.

For winter it's snow skiing/boarding, footy, warm rich pasta/baked/stir fry/stew dinners, beer, smooth rich cabernet sauvignon wine..

You Sir, are a WEENIE!!

It's usually 78-80 degrees where I work with the ac on. 80 Degrees is NICE out! Funny when I visit folks up north during july, they all complaining about how hot it is. I'm like, Let's go out and play in the sun! Put the windows down in the car! Turn off the AC! It's gorgeous!

Even 90 degrees elsewhere is nice! Mmmmm

But hey.. when you're used to 100+ with 95-100% humidity, anything else feels like a vacation.

Hell sucks. Wish I could sublet.

Not like you're on the internet or anything... ;)

Tc = (5/9)*(Tf-32); Tc = temperature in degrees Celsius, Tf = temperature in degrees Fahrenheit

Since I am not a weatherguesser, I have to rely on others or airports to tell me exactly what degree it is outside ..

perhaps it was with heat index, compound that with the blacktop of a flight line *shrug* ... was hot as hell I can tell you that .. perhaps the temperature wasnt that high, but thats what our bodies FELT it was ...*shrug*

with a temp of 105 and a dewpoint of 82, we FEEL like it is 133 degrees

*shrug*

also on the flight deck it is hotter with jet exhaust and a HOT ass wind

*shrug*
