I am undertaking a survey, the results will be published and the sources credited - so voting is appreciated.

I'd think so, i was thinking about the pole and if the the no's ARE Americans i'd be interested in knowing their logic behind it. I just can't imagine what kind of person who is American isn't proud to be one...

I posted a "no" and I am American. My logic is fairly simple.

First, I believe we're approaching the time of a global community, so being American shouldn't be a big deal.

Second, I'm of Irish (primarily) descent with English, French, and German mixed in. I just happen to have been born in and live my life in America.

Third, if I'm going to be proud about anything, it's going to be about doing something well or good, not simply being something.

And while all those elements hold true over any given time, I can also supply a fourth for the current times in that I'm dissapointed that we ([pseudo] re)elected Bush and at the Iraq war. That being different still wouldn't affect my general world view though.

Global community.. panic!
Having said all that, the situation has been handled, so this thread is pretty much at an end. -Kossuth

I am proud to be an American. I am not proud of the way America is being represented on the global stage... in fact, I'm downright embarassed.
