i recently upgraded laptops, aaaand my parents decided they didnt want a laptop.

Dell inspiron 5100
windows xp pro
512 mb ram
40 gb hard drive
pentium 4 2.66 ghz cpu
15.1" display
office 2003 professional
adobe creative suite 2
macromedia studio 2004
it has some minor cosmetic damage on the top outside shell
no dead pixels on the monitor

375$ or i will just toss it on ebay

and if yer nice, and i like you, i will throw in my linksys 802.11g (54mbps) wireless networking card.

Haha, thats funny... its the same laptop I have from work. I just have mine upgraded a bit with more memory and wireless networking.

Its actually a decent computer, just kind of heavy to be a real portable.

yeah, its not very portable, it is kinda heavy, and it gets a hotter than i would like. Battery life isnt that great, and the graphics card is weak. That pretty much sums up what is wrong with this model, other than that its a great laptop, It is as fast as anyone who checks email and does web stuff would ever need.

Hmm.. I get about 3.5 hours of battery life out of it. Unless I'm doing something with a lot of CD/DVD access, then its down around 2-2.5

On a side note, I wonder if that's why Apple computers sell like they do. I don't think they get hot. Doesn't seem that way anyway.

heat is a very important factor when buying a laptop, but no thats not why Apple laptops sell so well. Apple laptops sell so well because there is no better solution for video and audio editing than the Apple Solution. Most people that are really serious about A/V (and can afford it) own a mac.

Actually, Apple "laptops" get as hot as or hotter than others. I've got a recall on my G4 Powerbook right now from the same battery problem that the Dell ones have. Apple doesn't even call their laptops laptops, they're really like a smaller, portable desktop. There's also been a problem from the start with that gel stuff they put in there to help take away some of the heat. The new MacBooks have the same problem, though its because they overcompensated and used too much whereas before it was too little.

Nevertheless, I love my Mac except that it doesn't run ZMUD. I hope that the new Macbooks with their dual OS will allow it to run correctly. I'm waiting for the next generation before I consider trading up, myself.
