Torilmud <Drama>

And here's how it is.

The multiplay rules aren't going to change. Nobody who currently logs into the MUD has the authority to change the fundamental rules of the game. What, you think that Lathander and Callarduran are going to suddenly reverse 15 years of tradition so you people can CR yourselves? Won't happen. If you multi and you get caged, go log one of your 15 alts instead of pissing all over the BBS about how people who aren't in charge should change rules that will never change.

This is what Toril is, and what it will always be. There's probably never going to be a Toril 2.0, at least not in any real sense. Even if Shevarash implemented Toril 2.0 in its entirety tomorrow, it would crash and burn -- you'd find the bugs and the flaws, all the little imbalances that are always present in new game content. And the Corths of the game would be the first ones on the BBS railing Shevarash and company for the poor quality of the finished product. Testing would begin, bugs would get polished, but the net effect would be sharply negative. Because the only thing that keeps you guys interested in Toril 2.0 is the idea of Toril 2.0. As soon as the code goes live, you'll bitch because it's too different, or because it doesn't make sense, or because it's not what you thought it would be. You'll bitch, and you'll piss and you'll moan, but you'll be stuck with it. Because this is Shevarash and this is Toril -- changes on this MUD are fucking glacial. That's how it is.

When Toril 2.0 finally comes in, you will hate it, and you will be stuck with it. Toril 2.0 is more valuable in theory than in practice. The idea has kept you interested for YEARS longer than the actual game ever will.

And besides, I'm willing to bet that the motivation to finish Toril 2.0 dropped through the floor the day that WotC announced 4th edition D&D. Why spend a thousand man hours coding a "new" version of a ruleset that will literally be obsolete before it even comes out?

So my advice to you is to just decide if Torilmud 3 (or whatever the hell version this is now) is the game you want to play. If it is, then play it. If it's not, then go google "online roleplaying game" and hit I'm Feeling Lucky and see what comes up. There are two dozen MMOs and two thousand MUDs out there for you to play. But if you're going to stay here, because you like the game for what it is, then just go fucking play it and stop trying to change the world with BBS arguments.

Haven't you people learned yet that BBS arguments don't actually change anything?

I have.

And that's why I stopped playing Sojourn in 2001.

This has been a RagornPost(tm). I haven't done one of these in a while.

actually there's over 140 english mmorpg's on the market. yeah yeah 100 of them are the same korean grind trash with different skin

good post ragorn. this entire bbs has become as bad at the WoW general board. nothing but bitching. rarely anything truly constructive. more bantering and bickering back and forth between the same people over the same old shit that happened 3, 5, 10+ YEARS ago. the inability for these adults to be civil to each other in a game with such a small player base is fucking sad to say the least.

i hope toril never goes anywhere. it's nice to be able to log in every couple of months and check things out. but i know it costs someone somewhere real life money to keep it running, and at some point they may just decide it's not worth it - entirely based on the piss-poor attitudes displayed on this BBS

By deleting the thread they've ensured no one with that authority can read it and see the suggestions players have made.

It isn't really deleted, but it's over in the staff section so it is still seen.

And I want to pull something from the censorship thread, just in case that one gets deleted.

I don't disagree that the multiplaying rules could probably benefit from some discussion. If someone wants to start a non-poisonous thread about it, with the intention of discussing the reasons behind the rule and the ramifications for removing it, I'll put my opinion there. But seriously, if you want to change the policy, talk about it like adults. Don't post because you got caged, or because you hate Shevarash, or because you want to ignite drama about how Toril is dead and multi is the only thing standing between you and quitting.

Just talk about it like grownups, and it may actually happen.

I haven't always seen eye to eye with Ragorn, but one thing I will say is that the guy isn't stupid.

"Let me make this clear. Other than for random fun occasions, there is no plan, at all, to make multiplaying allowable here. That is not the game we wish to run. There are other games to play if you want to play with yourself." - Staff

*shrug* Is there a point? Even though Lath did preserve it for Shev, it doesn't look like they're going to consider anything we say.

Ok.

Then stop making threads about it.
