Rogues and weapon fumbles

Postby Izisayyin » Sat Nov 15, 2003 2:31 am

Is there a reason rogues seem to fumble their weapons about 3x as often as anyone else?

I've primarily played mages, but they never seemed to fumble 3-5 times a fight. The rogue can even manage to fumble both weapons in 1 round! It's crazy. I think my current record was fumbling every round for 7 rounds straight.

Only Porthos would think of a new way to disarm himself...

What is your Dex? High dex counters fumbles. . . also, since you wield 2 weapons, you'll fumble 2X as much ;)

8)

It's because you haven't cursed your weapons yet.

Also, rogues might fumble 3-5x more than mages because rogues get 3-5x more attacks than mages.

One would think so, but the little rogue with 100 dex seems to fumble less than a mage with <60 dex.

...due to the fact that race affects what kind of dex you have... :)

but they wield twice as many weapons and get 3-5x as many attacks...

fumble needs looked at. Your weapon should not end up on the ground as part of normal combat unless gods gonna start reimbing.

I've read this thread and will look into the issue of fumbling, particularly on very high level characters. Can't really say this will change. Just wanted people to know it's been noticed by the coding staff.

A fumble's just the chance you take. You don't wanna lose your good weapon to a freak crash, then don't use your good weapon. We're big boys and girls, and shouldn't expect the staff to reimburse us every time we take a risk.

Yeah, yeah, I know... that's not the right answer, or at least not one anybody wants to hear.

You know, I never thought the frequency of fumble was 'realistic'. In two semesters of fencing I NEVER fumbled my weapon. I was able to disarm my opponents on the order of once or twice a week, though. Disarmed one fellow three times in one bout, and lost the bout! For some reason they wouldn't let me stab him if he didn't have a weapon.

Now, we can do this the hard way, or... well, actually there's just the hard way.

let me ask this.

do you think its the direction or intention of the gods that players should lose eq including weapons as a by product of crashes?

Do you really think that fumbling was supposed to increase the risk of you losing gear, or perhaps cause you to lose damage and get you in some hairy situations with mobs picking up your weapons?

Do you really think crashes are a design goal for the mud?

We restore epic quests that get screwed up due to crashes... guess its just different in those situations right? cuz the guy who spent 3 months chasing a skull smasher shoudlve just been a big boy and taken it in the shorts.

questionable consistency in policy.
