Max Wis limitation

Postby rylan » Mon Nov 24, 2003 2:25 am

I've noticed that for a human cleric, I get benefits from maxwis up to 115. However past that I don't see any differance in pray times, and I've tried wearing close to 130 with no change. I don't know if its like this with other classes/races, but can somebody check if maybe the scale just stops for some reason with maxwis? Would be really nice to get something out of my additional maxwis gear.

The same is true for max dex. I notch at 101 (human rogue) and I've gotten to 123 without a second, so I am assuming that all max stats cap long before you wear as much as possible.

The best way to test this is to use a low-level character (roll up a newbie if you want), and see how many 'notches' you hit with wisdom or int (since these notches are only visible in pray/mem times, the longer your intial memtime the more detail you can discern).

Level plays a role in this formula, and it's not calculated to whole seconds, but fractions of a second.

Yeah I've seen that it effects fractions of a second. From 100 to 115 I could see a differance if I was praying several spells, say like 6 full heals it would shave a couple seconds off the total time. However from 115+ I couldn't get even a 1 second total pray time differance when repraying my entire spell list.

Of course, practically speaking, what Rylan's asking is if it makes a difference at high levels, so it apparently doesn't.

I'm also guessing that since I can see a differance up to 115, I should also be able to see a differance past 115 if it actually did anything. But it doesn't seem to matter.

Verified, by equipping on test, that you can indeed get a notch past 115 (that actually reduces prayer time). :)

This difference was noticeable memming 4 greater realms.

It will be fixed in Toril 2.0.

Is it only max int/wis that notch multiple times above 100 or do the physical stats do the same and I just didn't notice? And if it is only the mental stats, is there a reason for this?

They all do, though the specific numbers are dependant on race.

Thanks Itchy. I must've added wrong or something. Easier to check now since I can see what my actual stats are past 100 :)

so my next question is this: why is it so much harder to notch physical stats past 100 than it is mental? I can understand there being a slight difference in how often they notch, depending on the race, but a 20+ point difference seems a bit extreme (especially on a human, who is supposed to have no strengths or weaknesses, implying that stats would notch at approximately the same rate).

I say if you are going to toss around max con like it's candy as was done (from what I saw) in the eq changes, then make it the primary source of tank hp and add !war flags to some hp eq. As it stands right now, most people carry around a little bit of max str, and some carry max con, meanwhile almost every caster wears a truckload of max int or wis as primary eq.

I'd just like to see the top row get some lovin'.

OK, let's try again:

They use the exact same system.

In fact, I personally think casters are mostly wasting their time with MAX_STAT gear.

8)

Yeah, max stat gear means very little. See my thread about changing the stat system to something that will make people want max_stat gear.
