I don't know. Do you think it should? Are you asking if the rest of us think it should, or are you telling us you think it should, or are you asking us to make up your mind for you if it should or not.

I think you meant to say "I think it should."

state a particular case why it should aggro? seems pretty tricky to twink non-aggro mob(s) with it anyway.

i was thinking it should agro since

NIGHTMARE
Spell.

Area of effect: <victim>/Room
Aggressive: Yes
Cumulative: No
Duration: Instantaneous
Class/Circle: Illusionist 10th
Type of spell: Illusion

This devasting phantasmal spell summons the victim's most horrifying
nightmares into existence to attack them. The phantasmal nightmare
creatures are imbued with incredibly power and their attack does
terrible damage. The nightmare creatures are so terrifying that
they have a chance to stun all the caster's enemies who witness them.

it says it is aggressive and it isnt a very nice thing to do to someone..
It means that you can use one of the most powerful area spells and not get mobs in room agro to you dutring large group combat, it means that you can stun things then have a chanter mess them up while they are too stunned to fight back

I put the question mark at the end as I wasnt sure entirely, deal with it...

Err its not an area spell. Its a single target spell that happens to stun other mobs in the room, no damage to them. If it's going to agro the stunned mobs/room at least it should be an area spell.

So works like the old sunray? nogs

That makes some more sense to me, as you have to be fighting something then. Tho could always just tog a shade. I was thinking you could do stuff like stop mobss pelling up, healing eachother etc etc... not necesarrily a bad thing, a bit of tactics always good. So long as it needs to be targetted I think it could work, was just wondering as I was watching its use over the last few weeks a bit.

Can you target yourself like old sunray and stun the mobs anyhow?

No, you can't. It's a targetted damage spell with an area affect stun. The stun isn't really reliable enough to use it to twink, at least not that I've ever seen.

How about this as justification: the other (untargeted) mobs that get stunned by the nightmare attack are simply too afraid to attack the caster.

ah ha! now i know how it works, thanks mucho folks, just really had no idea how it worked exactly...
so you target one guy, horrifically, and have a chance to scare the crap of of some others, that's cool.

Exactly...the idea behind it being that the phantasmal terror induced in the victim is so powerful that it bleeds through to anyone nearby...notnough to hurt them, but jsut enough to scare the crap out of them momentarily.

Back when I played the "non-aggro" effect of nightmare was a BIG advantage, since you did not have to worry about !aggro mobs or blinded mobs getting engaged.

You can accomplish the same thing by carrying an effigy of Shevarash around with you, but it does tend to reduce your popularity

Well if they're scared momentarily, why don't they just attack the caster after the temporary stun wears off?

Because it scared them, not damaged them. Scaring someone isn't really an agressive act. People pay to get scared at amusement parks and for halloween.

I dunno... my first instinct is to beat the hell out of anything that scares me when I'm not expecting it. Try being a spider in my house... you'll get hit with a shoe every time.

Of course, if you were causing me to hallucinate spiders, I might be too busy swinging my shoes around to notice you.

Give nightmare Thunderblast area damage, then make it aggro :). Nightmare is like less than 25% chance of stun anyways.
