Spell component weight

can someone PLEASE explain to me how a griffon feather can weigh one pound???

Its a feather.
Off a magical beast

a FEATHER. I don't care how big it is, its a feather. i could give you 1lb for a roc feather but not a griffon. :P

I can even handle it for the bark though its a bit nuts :P

but the feather??

Remember that stupid riddle which is heavier, a pound of rocks or a pound of feathers? And they ALWAYS had a picture of a tiny rock bag and an enormous bag with feathers in it. Same case here? :)

As someone who used to carry hundreds of wt. 1 arrows on him, I can easily sympathize . . .

I'm guessing that the MUD only supports integer weights. Over the years, I've noticed that many of the things that were wt. 1 but really should have been much lighter are things that had fractional weight in D&D but someone decided to round up instead of down.
