mispelling MED may cost you important mmail
sa just typed mde as typo and poofed an important message. that'll learn me.
stuff.
Hi. Mde does not work without a specified number within the index. I've tested and retested it. :) if you deleted a message, you had to have typed in a number. *comfort*

When I was a young elf, on my first char, I was grouped with a couple other young elves. We were leaving the Faerie Forest, and passing Finn. One member of the group, meaning to type 'Hi Finn, left off the single quote, leading to a swift death.

I think a couple of points (one directly, one indirectly) have been brought up which weren't completely spelled out before, so to indulge myself..
I've noticed that there is some sort of a list reordering that goes on with various things in the mud. Specifically, inventory and mmails seem to get re(verse)-ordered after logins, and perhaps after certain amounts of time. I don't know if kane really deleted his mmail or if he's just missing it because it's now message 32 when it used to be message 1, but if I had to guess, I think that's what he was really seeing. I've always wondered if there was some purpose to this, if it was a feature, or a bug. As far as design goes, I'd think that having both a static inventory and a static mmail list would make more sense than one that gets reversed after you cough too many times (or even if it's just login/logout). That's the indirectly brought up point.
The directly brought up point is the error messages, or lack thereof, with the mmail system. I've accidentally typed "mwrite bid [item]" and it replied that the message was successfully sent. Not having access to the pfiles, I can't say whether or not "bid" is really a character, but I'm guessing it is not, and I might have caught my faux pas if I was informed that the mmail had, in fact, not been sent to anyone at all. Given Kane's lack of error message, it appears as though the various parts of the system may all be lacking in appropriate error checks regarding garbage user data being thrown at it.
Anyways, for the most part mmail works fine, and frankly there are probably other projects I'd rather see implemented much sooner than checks to see if there's an "ebkac" when people use mmail. The reverse ordering thing I'm pretty curious about though..
Edit: woops, replaced angle brackets < with square braces [.
