time command should show EST

Postby Disoputlip » Sat Apr 22, 2006 11:37 pm

I am not aware who is hosting your system, but the clock must somehow be off.

If its just some administrative thing then it would be nice if you could set the clock, and then have the time (with the time command) be EST, and also display EST, instead of EDT.

I know there are webpages that can help me etc.

Well, that's an easy change, but why EST? Lots of other timezones have >= significance. If it's changed at all (which is doubtful), I'd say GMT or some other "international" timezone.

Disoputlip is a timist! He thinks one time zone is superior to another. One day we must put aside our differences and accept that no time zone is better than another. *tsk tsk*

Since I use Zmud, I'm partial to the following trigger:

#trig {Time elapsed since boot-up} {#sa %time}

It'll give you your computer's time, fairly close to where the mud shows its own time. I understand that it's not changing the mud's display, which is what you'd asked about, but hopefully it'll do something of what you were hoping for.

The de facto standard when someone says when to zone is always in EST.

Lets do this zone 1pm EST, lets do this zone 5am EST.

That is why I suggested EST.

Another solution could be that players annonced zonage times in the EDT that is displayed right now.

I think it'd kick butt if it showed multiple timezones or a timezone per large country mass. Actually would absolutely rock to be able to tog which time zone you needed!

Now we're asking for the mud to do simple math for us? What's next, asking it to wipe our asses? Seriously...

EASTERN IS 5 HOURS BEHIND GMT.

PACIFIC IS 3 HOURS BEHIND EASTERN.

HAWAII IS 3 HOURS BEHIND PACIFIC.

For daylight savings, the gap is lessened by an hour on each of those.

C'mon people, make a trig as Auril suggested or stop bitching. This is just stupid.

*boggle* who's bitching?

Did you feel it was also stupid when they decided to convert the xp bar to an actual % for us? They didn't need to do that either. Just cuz something makes things convenient, doesn't make it stupid.

Greenwich Mean Time. Greenwich sits at zero degrees longitude and is half way around the world from the International Dateline which marks where one day ends and another begins. Therefore GMT -5 means Eastern Standard Time is 5 hours behind the time in Greenwich!

Hawaii time > all

Make all references to Hawaii time. In-game, out-of-game, everywhere. Ya!

The MUD time command should display the time with an abacus.

I used to love that trigger. Never imped it myself, but I'd copy the xp line and paste it into a gsay to set off everybody in the group.
