Dev News: Project Bandaid (Phase 2)

Postby Shevarash » Mon Nov 12, 2007 6:40 pm

Phase 2 of Project Bandaid is now deployed to the MUD. This phase contains a collection of bug fixes, enhancements, and time savers, in addition to the new Spell Focus item effects. The contents are as follows:

Code: Select all

11/12/07               &cL[&cGShevarash&cL] &cGProject Bandaid: Phase 2&N
  - Added Spell Focus item effects.  There is no equipment in game yet, see the forums for details.
  - 'Meditate' is now a reflexive skill for all casters.  Psionicist usage is unchanged.
  - The 'mounted combat' skill now allows a remount in combat, with a 1 round lag.
  - Revamped the system for allowing/disallowing commands while hidden.  All communication (except for
say/shout), all group commands, all mail commands, all movement commands, all look commands, and a
selection of "safe" commands are now allowed.  Safe commands are: skills, help, score, att, news,
    motd, assoc, time, and consider.
  - Fixed a bug with Bronze Dragon breath.
  - Lowered camp time by 50%.
  - Cut scribe time by 50%.
  - The 'empty' command now moves coins as well as items.
  - Raised the creeping doom damage very slightly to compensate for the saving throw added a while back.
  - Lowered the temperature threshold for the 'dessicate' spell.
  - Increased search success rate, decreased lag by 50%.
  - 'Disarm' can now be used with no parameters, and will select the first available weapon on the target
you are fighting.  You can also target secondary weapons directly now, even if there is no primary
    weapon wielded.
  - Vampiric Curse only shows a message when the hitter is actually healed.
  - You can now memorize from books held in either hand, even identical books.

All of these changes were inspired by player feedback, so please keep the ideas coming.

Tres awesomes! I suggested several of those.

You missed the part about dessicate, Rags. That means it might actually be worth praying it now if control weather will make it usable.

Added that to the list of safe commands for the next reboot.

By the way, the help file for meditate and probably other things are now incorrect.

Nice changes.

Off topic sorta,

if we have a BandAid3, is there any chance that dark wrath duration(9circ) can be upped to harmonius blessing duration (8circ)?

I'm seeing the huge possibility of eq escalation beyond what we've ever seen.

Spell Focus appears to be *very* powerful. I'd wear Focus eq with no other stats honestly. So when areas puts in items that combine ac/hp/focus, it has the potential of getting a little bit silly. I'd be keen on making focus eq never have hp...so the caster bears a real penalty for their increased sexy spells.

What's the general 'value' for focus at the moment? 1SF = 5MR = 5ss = 20hp?

I love the idea of spell focus, but it really must come at a substantial cost imo.

eq is already at it's most inflated in the entire history of the mud

more people now than ever before have broken 50 dmg, and that's AFTER most gear was NUKED back in 2003.

but in all that time, the only thing casters have ever had was +hp and -saves.

i'm sure it will take 5-6 pieces to reach that 25% spell focus. that is potentially a lot of hp you are giving up.

You forgot to mention that more mages than ever have broken the -100ac threshold...

Not to mention the insane maxint/maxwis people are wearing nowadays...

At present, a mage can hit 700+ hp and -100ac with +20maxint and all prots and respectable saves with a little work.

I don't think mages will be giving up very much for these spell focus items.

Introduction of spell focus items will be tightly controlled and overseen by myself. Just to be clear, this item stat is ported from 2.0, which is inherently much more balanced as far as equipment stats go. Adding these items to 1.0 is kind of a sneak peek of things to come, and many of the issues raised here about mage equipment balance will be addressed soon in 2.0.

the threshold has been there for a very long time. it just took most people 3 years to catch up to what I was telling them. no you didn't need tiamat items back then because emarin always wore -151 AC as well.

REMOVE DISGUISE LAG

Postby Drogga » Wed Nov 14, 2007 11:23 pm

disguise lag and remove disguise lag currently is the same. imho remove disguise lag should me much shorter then the disguise lag say 1/3 of the disguise lag? hope you can consider this coz remove disguise lag kinda too long for now.

.......

that's a big call...

i mean it's not like 1 spell focus item will allow casters to outperform other classes at their own job. that'd be just crazy.

Just pointing out that, Ride != Mount

Code: Select all

<T>
A loafing orc misses you with his punch.
A loafing orc does an acrobatic maneuver in battle, and trips up a heavy destrier!
You lose your balance and are dismounted.
stand
You stop riding a heavy destrier.
You pierce a loafing orc hard.

<snip>

<T> ride
Sorry, you aren't allowed to do that in combat.

<snip>

<T> mount
You skillfully climb on and ride a heavy destrier in the midst of battle.
