Radical roller idea to save bandwidth

Postby Thilindel » Sun Oct 26, 2003 4:04 am

Have all chars start w/same base stats. As you level you gain pts to add to stats of choosing. Also have quest mobs that upon completion, yield bonus points of a specific kind. Like wise cleric, mage..barbarian quest, etc, that'd give 4 pts to a stat. Hopefully the quest would be repeatable. It would save a ton of bw and no more stat hunting.

Is bandwidth an issue? I have yet to see a post by an imm saying so.

Some stats

In 59:20 of rolling, (trigger #cr on the prompt) I rolled 6,915 chracters and used 297,211 bytes of bandwidth which would have been 7,098,677 bytes if it wasn't compressed:

recap:
84.4 bytes/sec compressed at max speed rolling
2,016.7 bytes/sec if it was uncompressed

I find it hard to believe that a connection using 84.4 bytes/second is too much bandwidth. Also I doubt anyone can sift through 2 characters per second, so in reality the bandwidth used is even less. If you don't like the new roller and would like to see it nerfed, express your opinion that way or find a better smokescreen (all that compression takes too much processor).

When you login it asks for you to 'brief'. So if it's not an issue why's that there?
