An idea I wanted to toss out and see what the dogs thought of the meat:
unique, authenticatable character seals.
useful for signing or sealing letters & notes, messages, etc.
and if nothing else a platinum sink and something to look cool with :x

It is the same suggestion Kiryan made. I just thought it deserved a thread for discussion away from talk of bidding systems and tokens.
Authentication would open another face to gameplay, and give characters some sense of permanence, as well as allowing characters to leave their mark on things in the world.

Can I mark this thread by peeing all over it?

Danahg tells you 'yeah, luckily i kept most of it in my mouth and nasal membranes, ugh'
Dlur group-says 'I have a dead horse that I'm dragging down the shaft with my 4 corpses. Anyone want to help me beat it?'
Calladuran: There are other games to play if you want to play with yourself.

What are characters going to do? etch their name into the walls of Jotunheim to mark that they have been there?
What does authentication have to do with anything?

Gonna have to agree with Tasan on this one, can gods code in peeing on stuff so that we can mark our territory?
Cuz I have to say if Ashiwi pee'd on her tia amulet i'd stop bugging her for it.

Okay, you can stop bugging me for it now.
Gormal tells you 'im a dwarven onion'
Gormal tells you 'always another beer-soaked layer'
Inama ASSOC:: 'though it may suit your fantasies to think so, i don't need oil for anything.'
Haley: Filthy lucre? I wash that lucre every day until it SHINES!

Ok, to your point of loaning out eq, I would hope that you're only doing so to players you trust will give it back. If I am not sure that a player will return a piece of eq, I make sure to give them something i don't mind losing. All it takes is someone staying away for 3 months to make you forget about it...
From that standpoint, i can see how an authenticatable note might be useful... but say you're constantly receiving/giving these notes - you end up needing a bag just to store them, and looking through that for the specific one you need, or even remembering that the note is there after 3 months, may not really be a good option.
Maybe the way to do it is to have authenticatable MMail/Forwarding. And to have MMail storage options as well.... That way you can see recipient and subject at a quick glance.
