On warriors again!

Postby Nokar » Tue Aug 09, 2005 4:27 pm

I have posted before but I cannot find it on here anymore.

Well lets get some more ideas no how to improve warriors.

My ideas are:

Improving defensive skills:
Actually having parry, dodge, and riposte actually do more.
-----
2handed tanks should still be able to tank well and should get a parry bonus when using a 2h handed weapon. Just because we take off our shield shouldn't me we are useless as a tank.
-----
Add reflexive skills for shield use and 2handed use.
It is possible to use a shield to create an opening on your opponent and score a vital strike that causes more damage.
2 handed--> A % chance could be added to sever a limb or while parrying doing a little more damage with a riposte.
-----
Add reflexive skills for third attack and/or fourth attack only attainable by completing a quest, and attaining level 46 for third and 50 for fourth. Yet must also have their weapon skills maxed for the respective level. For third attack you should at least have a 90-92 in ALL 1handed weapons, and for fourth attack they should all be 100.

It is not only rogues and rangers who can attack an insane number of times naturally.
-----
Possibly have a warrior choose at level 26 to either specialize in defense or offense.
Like casters specializations.
-----
Race innates for offense and defense.
Like dwarves should get bonuses for battle significantly larger foes. They have spent their whole lives battling things larger than they are.

Barbs already get bodyslam.

Add Battle-rage to Dwarves, barbs, orcs, and ogres.
-----

Let's hear your ideas.
Warriors do need something new, improved, or tweaked!

L8r,
Rhoquinn group says 'Nok no wandering!'
You group say 'Is there any aggro's here?'
You flee westward!
You group say 'ummm guys?'
Rhoquinn group says 'Dammit Nok'
Welcome to toril

I don't want this to come across as negative... but I disagree with some of the things you've said.

First of all I would welcome warrior tweaks. I'm a warrior. Our biggest problem is we're a lump of meat that's useless outside of a group. But inside a group we have a defined role, and while para and stun spells have somewhat chipped at that role, we still need to be there for zones, and on the big picture of things, warriors work.

Secondly, if you give warriors an option to specialise in offence, or defence here's what'd happen.

1) Warrior picks defence. Great move warrior, that's your job in zones.

2) Warrior picks offence at level 25 when he knows no better. Oh noes.

It's a bit like asking an enchanter if they want to focus on spellups or on spell damage.

Reflexive skill for shield use - like riposte with a shield? Great idea. You swing a sword at me, I deflect it with my shield, opening you right up for me to hammer your face in. Sounds good.

The two handed sword I'm not so sure on. But I wouldn't mind seeing a skill where a two handed sword was made much easier to parry with.

I like the quest idea for a skill - but how about having it for a warrior only haste item? Back when Duris was good, warriors used to get to level 50 with semi-shabby equipment, and we'd do a zone to get a warrior a haste item. Toril's obviously far better in the quest department, so warriors can do a caster type quest to end up with a haste item. Or a skill. Whichever, I'd prefer haste item, but there's possible cheese there. I certainly wouldn't whine if it was a skill for more attacks.

I like the race innate defensive things there.

They add flavour, and as long as they are noticable to the clerics and the individual warrior without significantly changing zone balance then it'd be cool.

Although since dwarves are already pretty nice as warriors, they might seem to get it easy if they get everything bigger than them - perhaps giants as natural enemy? That kind of thing can be worked out though.
