This is my question why after going from SMALL wounds like above did he jump to excellent in one round??? Any thoughts? For what it is worth this particular thief seemed to be a bit tougher to kill than normal ones.

I'd say regen ticced probably. It was most likely barely into small wounds after only 1 hit and a flam proc.
