I posted to move things along; the general feeling seems to be that there has been enough RP in Minthka and it's time for a scene change.

Okay, so the current party is Birile, Khaiden, Tasan, and Thalidyrr? I guess Koray can feel compelled to go with Dwylt to help some dwarves out. I know the player is busy with a new job.

Birile, Khaiden, Tasan, and Thalidyrr gain 250 xp for RP.

Let me remind everyone that we welcome comments, questions, guest players, etc. but we'd prefer to have the discussion take place here, and the cameos feature as significant parts of a story.

Please contact me if you want a cameo so that you can be included in the planning. It is potentially confusing if OOC posts get mixed in with the IC thread because then it isn't clear what should be taken seriously and followed up on.

Thanks for your cooperation!

Speak Language isn't one of the Knowledge (any) skills, IIRC. Bards get it as a class skill, but I didn't take any ranks in it 'cause I already knew Common, Halfling, Orc and Goblin--who knew I would need more?? Ah well. :)

On a side note, Birile is sneaky as hell, but he can't seem to notice sh*t for the life of him...

Correct. Most bards don't take extra languages unless they're trying to qualify for World Speaker, actually. :P

Regarding the language used, I hadn't realized that nobody knew this language. Oh well.

I was about to post this in the RP thread, but realized that it is entirely OOC content.

Because the surprise round occurs before the other party has had a chance to act, they are still behind the vegetation (in concealment) during the surprise round. You may use your standard actions to cast spells, move to better positions, fire into the vegetation if already holding a ranged weapon, take cover, etc.

The party knows that these are large creatures that speak a harsh, guttural language. They are approximately 120 feet away. The land slopes gently downward towards them.

SRD wrote:Concealment Miss Chance

Concealment gives the subject of a successful attack a 20% chance that the attacker missed because of the concealment. If the attacker hits, the defender must make a miss chance percentile roll to avoid being struck. Multiple concealment conditions do not stack.

So, with the surpise round, can I get two rounds of attacks in, or still only the one. (Sorry for the delay in movement. My MB is fried in my PC, so here when I can be.)

You'll get one standard action, which is less than what we can do in a full round. The good thing is, the creatures don't get a chance to do anything in the surprise round, so it's almost like a freebie for us. The problem is, in general, all of our initiatives sucked, so it remains to be seen if the creatures have a chance to react prior to us getting another shot at doing anything.

If you plan on attacking and you already have your weapon ready (moot, since you're a Monk), you get one attack. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the creatures are flat-footed, which is advantageous to us if we plan on fighting them.

Sorry to hear that.

If you start within range of the enemy, you can attack with your standard action in the surprise round, and then attack in the first regular round. So that's two rounds of attacks in two rounds. Is that what you're asking?

FWIW, charge is a full round action, but you can take a "partial charge" that only allows you to move 1 movement. This is an exception to the general rule that you can only charge as a full round action.

Note that for this particular encounter you guys only went as far as Birile previously got before a noise gave you away, and thus you start 120' away . . . which is well out of charge distance for all of you. Thus I would personally suggest hiding behind cover, firing ranged weapons, or casting buff/summon spells.

You could. It would work out to one move in the surprise round (30') and a double move in the first normal round (60'.) There is a run option for unburdened characters (gives up your dex bonus to AC, moves 4x normal speed, or 120') but it can't be done with just a standard action and it can't be combined with an attack.

Well, henceforth you certainly can :D

To expand on that point, generally Knowledge checks are required to know about races other than the most common races (assumed in most cases to be dwarves, elves, humans, halflings, goblins, kobolds, and orcs.) For gnolls, I set the number pretty low.

Of course, now that you've encountered this race you'll most definitely know enough about it to identify it, barring extenuating circumstances such as disguise.

So, what's w/ the comment? Just because I didn't run full force to cause some violence means I wasn't involved? Personally I'm not all about the "kill-on-sight" mentality when we have a mission already at hand.

Quick note on masterwork weapons - they all cost over 300 gp, meaning that they can easily be sold for over 150 gp in most circumstances. As players you guys might not instinctively know that equals big money at your level, but your characters will, so I'm pointing this out.

I want to make sure you guys realize that you have some funds and can customize your eq choices. I don't want to push for anything, but potions or a wand of curative magic would not be a bad idea (bards can use such wands without requiring Use Magic Device checks, since cure light wounds, etc. are naturally on their spell lists.)

Er . . . there's actually more than one tent, but I need responses individually per tent as I describe each one, since doing certain things may attract attention. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

In this case, I just wasn't sure what Thalidyrr's reaction would be to unguarded boxes.

So, if I want to do a grab and run, grabbing the halfling and running for it, any rolls needed? Can't really think of much to do, and I am certainly not going to fight it out.

I imagine that an unequipped halfling is light enough for you to carry. There are encumbrance rules, so I'd have to check if you can really run carrying one, but I don't see anything wrong with your plan off the top of my head.

Of course, she's tied to the tent pole and you'll have to break that somehow . . . either a Use Rope or a break check, or by attacking the rope.

Consider: You have a 16 Strength score--that's rather strong and you can carry 76lbs. with a Light load, 153lbs. for a Medium load.

Consider: Birile weighs 34lbs. (not counting equipment).

Looking at your character sheet, I don't think you'd have much of a problem, as Mori said.

Use rope is a dex mod skill check; primarily rogues get it.

Since Thalidyrr has 0 ranks it'll be 14+3 for his dex mod = 17, and that makes it.

Birile, while you can snipe, be aware that it doesn't work too well at low levels:

srd wrote:Sniping
