Toril 2.0 and Monks?

So yeah. In this campaign I play a monk and it's always been a class i've been interested in. So that brings me to a question --

You say old monks will not be going back into game, but never really said a variant will not be. With that said can we maybe finally get a teaser on monks? It's fairly obvious that SOMETHING will be in game with the monk gauntlets we found in tia(Really. Gauntlets that only proc when barehanded?) it seems pretty much a given what type of class that'd be for :P Even if the gaunts stats do make them fairly uber, still. The addition of the proc makes one wonder. So, give us a tease or so.

Maybe Thalidyrr would get remade as a monk!

Not to burst any bubbles, or confirm or deny well, anything, but the proc on those gauntlets was written by a combined effort between Mielikki and Dugmaren.

In short, well before Toril 2.0 was conceived and initiated.

Though I will agree they do seem well suited to somebody who doesn't wield a weapon.

Ouch ouch ouch.. shielded mob.. ouch ouch.. take off the sword..

gauntlet proc... gauntlet proc... Hmm.. that works. *halo*

Aren't those from the original Tia loot pile back from when we actually used to have monks?

What Ryan said, but if that was the thought process for those gauntlets I am quite saddened because that is just..lame :P Badly so.

Monks are imbalanced and will never be in the game.

This is how it's designed.

Old monks, sure. This isn't a thread about old monks.

I have a feeling monks will be back. It wouldn't make sense to me to try and stay true to D&D and D20 and omit a base class like that.

monks are probable the one class I would love to see come back, in some sense at least. I wasn't around for berserkers or whatever but I do remember seeing pheten rocking the tia hat with two polished steel amulets and prolly two lusties god.. lustrous golden rings haha. w/e. I do though think that it'd be kinda like a thank you to alot of the players that have been around for a long time to like have them back, I miss them. they were damn fun to watch.

It's a shame Monks suck in 3.5 D&D.

Monks in 3.5 mostly see use in certain high-AC builds, which may be counterintuitive for many. This is because the dex bonus restrictions on armor (and the careful price guidelines on armor) prevent characters from attaining triple digits. Being a monk means you can pump two stats and have them both count towards AC.

The downside to this is that monk damage is consistently inferior to that of just about every other class. Two handed power attacking outstrips them in melee, and I'm sure the superior firepower of mages and blaster priests needs little explanation.

Yeah, Monks can be built to be practically invincible... they just have few offensive options in combat, and even fewer class abilities out of combat. Building a Monk with 35 or 40 AC and ridiculous saves is fairly easy, but convincing the monsters that he's worth attacking is the tricky bit :)

I miss monks. I want to be a monk again. It is a shame that we'll never see them.

My 49 monk was outcast. ):
My 48 monk was not. (:

as long as i can roll up an ogre monk, or a gnome monk, i might consider playing one, however, given the fact that mystra isn't around to call me a lousy cunt-rag, i doubt it'll be as much fun as playing a monk back in the day
