I just got in touch with IS. I am told that we are curently undergoing a server migration and that no new ports will be opened until they resolve the existing issues. Is it common for network admins to open ports after bugs are worked out? Isnt 9999 a pretty common port? Just askin since i am a network/firewall neophyte.

Big ups to my Sojourn peeps,

In most corporate environs I have been in, almost all ports are closed, except on an 'as needed' basis. 9999 is not a common port.

80, 21, 22, 23, 8080, 400... Couple others. But not 9999.

I always thought its cheesy that they filter outgoing ports. Luckily we aren't filtered here like that.

So I dunno Toarn.. friends with any of the IS guys? There must be some sort of apps that let you reroute and mask to a differant port.

<a href="http://www.nocrew.org/software/httptunnel.html">Http Tunnel</a> will allow you to do it. It is really slow, and you need the server set up somewhere on the outside to use it. Of course, the firewall is there for a reason, and they can still packet sniff to tell what your doing. So if you get fired, don't blame me.

Tried a whole bunch of ports. 80 was the only one that "seemed" to connect. It connects to host right away, but then I never get the prompt/into page.

This is what zmud puts out:

Connected to host sojourn3.org

n
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<HTML><HEAD>
<TITLE>501 Method Not Implemented</TITLE>
</HEAD><BODY>

n to /index.html not supported.<P>
Invalid method in request n<P>
<HR>
<ADDRESS>Apache/1.3.20 Server at sojourn3.org Port 80</ADDRESS>
</BODY></HTML>

any thoughts?

The mud itself is only open on 9999. It does tell you port 80 is open though.

yeah, port 80 is for the website.. thats a standard web address.

They close down your ports again? Thought it worked for a few days there.

Yeah,

It was working for a day there, but now it seems that the firewall is up for good. Can only get a connection via port 80, no responses on the other ports Image

Ok, this blows. Guess I will be unable to connect due to port 9999 being blocked. I dont know anyone at IS and I am thinking I should go WIN. Any thoughts on wireless providers, costs? and availablity in Sacramento/Roseville area?

Hurm...

Someone give me the link of a commercial real estate site that uses port 9999 :P

Then I might stand a chance of getting the port unblocked
