Wah seriously, where was the article about the poor republican staffers who lost their jobs in 2006 and 2008? and really, these people's jobs are small potatoes compared to the money democratic causes are going to lose. I mean how is Obama going to bail out and channel money to the unions with the Republicans in the house?
wah, dem staffers to lose jobs when they lose majority

I wouldn't say this is unique to the states, but other countries have other systems.
One thing that annoys me is the ambassador of Denmark. Ofcourse this is only when the president is changed.
In Denmark, we use diplomats to act as ambassadors. These people mabye be good or bad, but they survive polital change, and are never replaced.
But, every time USA gets a new president, the put some random person that have contributed to the campaign, and insert them as ambassador in Denmark. Some countries have real diplomats, e.g. Germany, but small countries got some people with absolutly no skill what so ever. That have always annoyed me.
Dems and Reps are equally bad at appointing ambassadors.

I totally agree diso... Ambassadorships in America are political payback for raising money for presidential election campaigns and its disgusting. But also realize our ambassadors, for the most part, don't do any work, thats why the jobs are coveted. Its like a multi year vacation with a huge staff, unlimited government money and a bunch of people to drive you to VIP parties. Career staffers do all the work all the negotiation.

There are plenty of ambassadorships that aren't anything like the way you described. Politically sensitive positions like the ambassador to Iraq after the war, or Poland after the fall of communism are demanding positions that I wouldn't want to touch.

Sounds like a personal issue.
