"Chavez announced plans to expropriate the company in a televised speech, saying it operates in western Trujillo state.

The leftist leader criticized the company's practices in the country, saying it had been "taking away the money of Venezuelans" and exploiting local people. Chavez did not detail his complaints about the company"

Now replace Chavez with Obama, Venezuelans with Americans, expropriation with confiscatory taxes and Company with Wall Street, Insurance companies and Banks.

"Obama announced plans to confiscatory tax Wall Street, Insurance companies and Banks in a televised speech, saying it operates in western Trujillo state.

Big difference being that those financial institutions were the recipients of a tremendous amount of public funds. If Chavez had already bailed out that company, it might be a little bit more reasonable for him to want to nationalize it.

The rhetoric is the same. It's called: buy the dumbass-downtrodden voter. The dumber you are, the poorer you are, the easier it is to buy your vote.

Hmm, didn't read the article. Saw the picture and read the text below, then decided article wasn't well researched.

Chavez has been nationalizing companies left and right for a few years; he always claims the companies are stealing from the people whether directly or by price gouging.

I'm mostly taking a pot shot at Obama and the USA for effectively nationalizing the mortgage industry, the student loan industry, the auto industry and essentially taking over healthcare industry and increasingly trying to do so with the banking industry. Obama has gone to the media several times these past 2 years and demonized businesses and industries.

We just don't call it nationalization!

Hrmm, well the caption was a poor choice. Not sure how newsworthy it is that he is drinking coffee. And if he is in fact drinking cofee, and that is some relevent, then they need to show the damned coffee. But regardless, the article is solid. You probably wouldn't know but Associated Press (AP) is about as mainstream as it gets in the US.
