Cursed items

Postby Gerad » Thu Feb 06, 2003 8:49 am

You can't drop a suit of black scalemail, it must be CURSED!

< 150h/150H 5v/110V P: std > i
You are carrying:
a suit of black scalemail (magic)
a silvery sack

I am not wearing this item, simply picking an item up should not force you to be unable to drop it. Perhaps cursed items could be changed so that if you WEAR a cursed item, you cannot take it off without the remove curse spell. As it is, if you pick up a cursed item that you CANT EVEN WEAR, (cursed items that were of a differnet class or value alignment probably wouldnt hold on to something maligned to them), you have to remove everything, bag it all, hand it to a friend, and quit the game to get rid of it which is freaking retarted and makes no sense in a roleplaying format.

Is anyone in favor of changing cursed items this way?

Gerad, cursed items are supposed to be a minor challenge, requiring some action on your part to deal with them. Maintaining a supply of 'rem curse' scrolls usually isn't a problem for those who know how to get them, or getting the spell from a cleric type. Very few people wear items before ID'ing them unless the item is !ID, so removing the effect of curse on your inventory would basically negate the effect of curse overall. That wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, if you really like the trend of moving towards having absolutely no negative consequences for your actions within the game.

BTW... someone just pointed this out to me too. Casting remove curse on a person now zaps cursed items they can't wear/wield in inventory too (and I think doesn't zap wieldable items).

I know I had some warr longsword and my serpent staff in inventory and someone rem cursed me... I just dropped the sword.
