Feedback from spells

Postby gordex » Fri May 04, 2001 3:33 pm

Kelsiria and I cast DOOM about 8 rounds into a fight, shortly thereafter Kel died instantly. I think taking damage from 2 people casting spells has to go. Canceling out someone's spell is one thing, but taking 470+ damage is ridiculous. When Tiamat comes around tomorrow night, we are screwed since we will be killing each other half the time.
Imagine what happens when we DONT have much +hp eq and start casting the same spells in beta.

Heh... that's one of the limitations they put in so group leaders would no longer take 4 invokers along to do zones. I wouldn't count on it going away. Image (Perhaps lessen the damage so that people can live through one mistake though?)

I agree with Sarvis.

400 damage is ridiculous, imho. Down it to 100-150-200 or so, so it can still be deadly, and annoying, but not like that. The object of the game is to have balance and fun, or a happy medium... As it stands, it's just a logistical nightmare and very painful.

I agree with the solution so multiple invokers aren't taken, but think it's just overdone a bit.

But this feedback is also for druids and enchanters area spells?

I know I dislike feedback and will not bring another enchanter or more than 1-2 invoker to zones.

Yeah, Gordex! Here's what it looked like to me:

Casting: creeping doom *

< 287h/697H 120v/120V >
< T: Jasix TC: small wounds E: guard EC: nasty wounds>
An elite militia guard slashes Jasix hard.
Jasix blocks an elite militia guard's attack with his shield!
As Jasix's longsword hits an elite militia guard, black flames
engulf him, he flails about in a hopeless attempt to extinguish them.
Jasix barely slashes an elite militia guard.
Jasix barely slashes an elite militia guard.
Jasix blocks an elite militia guard's attack with his shield!
Jasix parries an elite militia guard's lunge at him.
An elite militia guard clambers to his feet.

< 287h/697H 120v/120V >
< T: Jasix TC: few wounds E: guard EC: nasty wounds>
You complete your spell...
As you near the end of your spell, you feel some of the spell turn back on you! *ZAP*
You cannot finish your spell without killing yourself because of Gordex's casting!

< -61h/697H 120v/120V >
< T: Jasix TC: few wounds E: guard EC: nasty wounds>
Valeos starts casting a spell.
Jasix says 'WOOSHKA! TAKE THAT!'

< -61h/697H 120v/120V >
< T: Jasix TC: few wounds E: guard EC: nasty wounds>
Horrible horde of small biting and stinging insects descends on you!

< -61h/697H 120v/120V >
<> You lose a level!
You feel less wooden.
You disband the group.

*** Welcome to Sojourn ***

We also experienced this while casting dessicate at the same time, as well. Afterwards we coordinated our spells a little better!

I think this should be changed. Doom is the prime damage spells of druids, and if Gordex and other druids are anything like me, this is usually the first spell I cast when casting areas.

Hmm, shouldn't you have thought of that beforehand? Like doom, inferno is the primary (area) spell for invokers, and they surely will make some assignments before they start combat... voker 1 cast first, when done voker 2 starts, etc.

I understand the need for feedback, but I agree with Jegzed, it's going to discourage bringing multiples of other classes also. That's pretty.. *shrug*

I voiced my opinion. The damage needs to be downed. I'll leave it at that.

It's good to see how Soj players just got more organized to work their way around the whole feedback issue.

I still wonder how things would be going when doing Tiamat with feedback.

Feedback seems fine as it is, mostly (for invokers). However, I'm not sure if tblast really needs feedback. This isn't a huge damage spell...

Feedback's an ok idea..i guess. I can see why it was put in and all that jazz. However, the feedback on inferno needs to seriously get halved or recoded so it's not based on current hps as that appears to play a factor, although i'm not positive on that.
