Hit Points??
Hit Points??
I've been noticing (along with quite a few other people I group with) that hit point gains seem to be quite a bit lower than during Alpha. For example, as a human cleric with high con notch, I get 6-10hps/level. In Alpha at lvl 10, I had 106hps, and now for beta I have 95hps at lvl 10 (averaging 7.44hps per levelup roll)..
Not sure if its just amazingly bad luck, but it just seems like a really big coincidence that a lot of other people are about 10% lower on their hps after 10 levels in beta versus the same level in alpha.
I wouldn't really be complaining if I was getting 8hps/level average (since that is the average gain for the 6-10 range), but as I said, quite a few peoplea re under their HP range average.

I'm playing an grey elf invoker. And elves get very little hp, so guess how you get as a mage then.
I got the max con nodge and should get 3-5 hp each lvl. I should get on average 4 hp each level. (at lvl 10 this is 53hp)
I got atm 48hp. This is on average 3.4hp each lvl. (you get 17hp with max con nodge as start)
SO I'm very curious how this can be, I'm already considering to reroll my char, don't got good stats (I thaught if the stat KARMA and LUCK excist I would have thoes high with the stats I got now).
Please enlighten me,
Almile

I've gotten some seriously high rolls.
I, as a grey elf ranger, outdistance other rangers and even grey warriors at my level by several hit points. In some cases, 10 or more. A lot when you consider we're in the 180-200 range.
I've seen people get 9 hp for several levels in a row, but I've been doing ok.. dunno, don't think it's a bug.

I statted a barbarian shaman who had high hit points to give you a counter example. He has 101 hp at level 13, and started with 21. So, that's 80 hp divided by 12 level gains, or an average of 6.66, above the average. The barbarian shaman range is 5 to 8 with max con notch, which should average 6.5. Anything within 1 point of the average is not that unlikely. Hp rolls have not been changed, but any statistician can tell you each character will land at a different point on the bell curve, and some will land low.
I'm averaging 12.25 hp/level... considering that my top roll so far is 14 (which is probably my max), I'd say I'm probably above the average.
(Halfling warrior)
In alpha, I think I was actually on the low side. Remember though, that you get 24 rolls like this... chances are still decent that I won't end up much above the average.
Sure hope that isn't the case... heh
Btw, think the lowest I've gotten is 9, which would indicate 11.5 or so should be the average... 12.25 is actually quite a bit high... heh

Yes, you can. But you choose not to be (careful, that is). Also, if you don't die within a certain % of your level, you won't de-level, causing that problem.

So you're saying an accidnet can't happen? :P
I've died and deleveled once I think. Maybe twice. Once was to a switch/track mob that slaughtered me with dual crits. The other was from a mob that aggroed a group member and somehow instacast a fireball at me.
It happens. I am as careful as can be when I just level. But accidents can and DO happen.

Well yes, I do have one death. Accidents can happen. But if you read the posts from some of the people here, they've died many times... in fact my in-game experience of finding whole groups lying on the ground suggests more than ya might think.
Sure, if you're doing something really hard for eq it can happen. But doing exp, in my opinion, the only reason that you should have problems with de-leveling much is if you get disco'd alot. Haven't had that myself in a long time... lucky I guess.
De-leveling *hurts* your character permanently. Avoid it at *all* costs, including possibly leveling slower than some other people you see. In the end, you'll still get to 50, but you'll have your full capability.

I've died 4 times so far, delevelled once (from 29 to 28, thankfully). Every death has been fully my fault, and avoidable. In alpha, I delevelled about 15 times (literally) before level 26. It takes a bit of practice to figure out how to play it safe, so I'm glad Alpha was around to get me back into the swing of things. All of you who didn't play because it's 'just alpha' didn't get the (re)training.

I have to agree...even in the face of all the logical evidence that Uthgar generated...I've seen a lot of low rolls for different character classes. I was grouped with a gnome enchanter, gnome illusionist, barb shaman, and AP...the illusionist leveled 3x, the enchanter 2x, the shaman 1x, and the AP 2x....each of these getting MINIMUM rolls. I know that it is not impossible...but for 4 different classes to each level (most more than once) and for ALL in the same group to get the minimum rolls seems highly unlikely...so much so that we petitioned the gods to make sure there wasn't a bug. I mean, 4 people...8 combined levels...ALL got minimum hps for their respective class/race. That seems just a bit implausible if not impossible to me..I was there...so I'm not doubting your statistical analysis Uthgar...I'm just saying something seems amiss.
Lotsa of ppl must be 25 by now. Ask them if they have average hitpoints (add hp lost due to level loss) and my guess is it will be pretty much all good. Some have 10 hp more, some have 10 hp less. At least with the people I group with Don't be discouraged by low rolls, I had 3 minimum gains in a row too.. and only 3 max gains in total
Cherzra 6hp above average
Cherzra 6hp above average
15 hps over average.
I was way above average for the first 10 levels, hit a slump from 10-15 (several minimal rolls), and finished off real strong, hitting my max a good amount. (plus the restore of pfiles made me relevel 25 for an additional 3 hps .
Random,
Belle
(never deleveled, died once to a few incorporal casters at a safe notch)

Here's the deal:
1. People who get less than the average will complain bitterly.
2. People who get above the average, while happy, won't spend all their time talking about it.
I think the standard business ideology is that a happy customer will tell 3 people, while an unhappy one will tell 22 on average. So um... sure, the unlucky people are going to be WELL known.
