I read in another post that shadow's use spell slots.

I was wondering how you can tell what the pets can cast and what they can't and how many they can cast.

used to be that when you made a wraith it was one circle below you. (ie. you're 31, you make a wraith. it can cast your 6th circle spells and sometimes fail them, but it cant do 7th like you)

dunno if that changed at all
