Rodric\'s Respite: Part I. Introduction To Ekar

Postby Xonumar » Mon Dec 16, 2002 6:08 pm

The sky above the small town of Jalen is
clear as the calm waters of a spring. A
perfect day to start a long delayed
vacation. Rodric Steelguard had been
escorting merchandise for months without
more than a day of respite. Rodric was fine
with this though. He pleased himself with
his work ethic. However, his employer Eric
Garron decided to take a week off. With no
orders left to fill this meant that Rodric
would have some spare time.
The air in the tavern of Jalen is
slightly misted by smoke, but the
food held a freshness that surpassed
some of the more popular rest eats
in Waterdeep.
"Rodric", addressed Eric. "I know you
would much rather continue you tracks,
but I am going to visit family. If
you want my advice I would recommend
the village Ekar."
Rodric takes another bite of grilled
mutton. His eyes not meeting with
Eric. Eric is used to this though.
He hired Rodric many years back and
despite his somewhat unsocial manners
his job performance record had
been outstanding. On several occasions
Eric had heard of attempts to bribe,
or hire out Rodric. Rodric never
accepted to Eric's knowledge.
"They have more gambling opportunities
than a medusa has snakes. The malt beer
has a unique richness I have not tasted
in any other establishment anywhere.",
continues Eric.
Rodric glances up at Eric in response to
this revelation. "Hmm. Eric you know...",
Rodric pauses to finish chewing. "I
will investigate this village you speak
of. Ekar. Perhaps it will yield some
spiritual journey." Rodric grins.
Eric claps his hand against Rodric's
shoulder and smiles nodding in agreement.
Later that day after a somewhat pressed
ride Rodric reins his jet black charger
to a halt before the small stone walls
that encompassed the village city of
Ekar.
The wall looked very make shift. Deffinately
not a professional job. The blocks leaned
against each other with gaps in several
places. Still though it appeared that the
wall had been in place for sometime. There
are even several guards standing atop the
wall sporting crossbows quite confidently.
The entrance gate glows lightly with a
blue hue. Rodric nods in satisfaction.
Thinking to himself the walls would be
more prone to become a doorway than
that massive slab of metal.
Upon dismounting and moving towards the
gate. The pass guard steps forward staring
straight into Rodric's eye for a second
then moving forward and brandishing a
cylindrical silver club like object.
Which the guard raises slowly in front
of Rodric. After a second the club glows
green for a brief second and the
guard waves Rodric through the gates.
Rodric makes a note to himself to inquire
about the strange gate passage protocol
when given the proper chance.
Once inside Ekar the air erupts with
activity...
