Add illusionists to elves?

Postby Selias » Tue Apr 22, 2003 9:18 pm

I'm assuming that the argument against elves being illusionist is that they would be perm hide/sneak with cloak of elvenkind. Since camo was changed so that you can't move, this is no longer a valid reason to bar elves from being illusionists. Can I get some feedback on if the class will be added for them? Would appreciate yes/no as well as reasons why or why not.

if you're going to add illu to the grey elf race can you at least increase the human int? getting tired of grey elves being the best at all casters
It will be fixed in Toril 2.0.

The fact that Grey's can't be illusionists is the only reason I don't have an illusie. It would be nice if grey's could be illusionists, but I don't think it really fits into the image of grey elves on sojourn.

First off, I do sacrafice hps for max_int. In fact, I sacrafice a ton of hps for em. It doesn't help all that much. I mean, what does human max_int notch at anyway? I feel like I gotta hit 140 just to get another second off my mem time.
As for elves become ills. I say let them do it. I would like an elf to be able to transform into something good looking, like a Dwarf! That is all.

If any race should get illusionists, it be drow, not grey elves. Grey elves are foresty, nancing, berry eating, wine drinking tree huggers...illusionists seem to me have dark, evil type spells. Not really in the elves profile in my thinking....plus, you got elementalists already!

Illusionists on this mud do have some pretty nefarious type spells, but also remember that elves can be neutral as well as good. Actually I see illusionist type spells to be more neutral oriented.

As for elves already having elementalists...

Mage Classes for Elves:
Enchanter
Invoker
Elementalist

Mage Classes for Gnomes:
Enchanter
Invoker
Elementalist
Illusionist

For all intensive purposes gnomes and elves are caster classes. True they can both be clerics, but human and dwarf are better choices for clerics. Elves do get druids, but at the same time a halfelf is a much better race for a druid.

Although, I do agree that drow should be able to be illusionists.

I agree that Illusionists and Grey Elves don't quite go together. Yeah, Grey Elves can be neutral and yeah, there are the two or three evil Grey Elves on the mud but Illusionists seem a little too crafty for the goody-two-shoes Greys. As for drow, there's no reason why they shouldn't have Illusionists RP-wise (in my opinion). Oh, and yeah, wily halflings should get to be Illusionists too! *wink Snurgt*

I'd love to have an elf illus, but for once I think I have to agree with Dartan.

Well...

The RP argument:

The innate magic possessed by elves (of all types) prevents the from capably wielding illusionary magic.

The other argument:

A little variety is a good thing. Try a gnome out. :)

Variety is no excuse for defying the guidlines set by D&D. In the case of drow elementalists and illusionists especially.

D&D guidelines aren't balanced for a long term game with 200-300 participants.

D&D guidlines also remove all restrictions on class, race and alignment, I don't see that happening soon. being an evil ranger would rock tho.
