Quest point system

Postby omrec » Mon Nov 10, 2003 6:41 am

Making some assumptions here:

1) The amount of points used in a quest is on a diminishing point scale. So you get full points for the highest-point item, less points for the next, etc.

2) The amount of points used as items get nicer is on an exponentially increasing system. So 2 damage is worth a lot more points than 1 damage, and 3 damage is worth a lot more points than 2 damage, etc. Adding a prot or sv has a multiplying effect on points, rather than just adding. So a 2 damage item, and a prot lightning item, combined would have a lot less points than a 2 damage, prot lightning item.

If these are both true, the quests will, by this system, have been overly nerfed. Since the number of points needed for nice items is already exponential, you don't need to reduce the second/third highest-point quest items by as much as is already happening. Obviously it shouldn't be strictly additive, because then quest results would be out of whack, but it shouldn't be as exponentially decreasing as it is now.

conquest armor is a prime example of how messed up the quest point system is, one of the items for the quest has better stats than the armor

Glad its being looked into Savras.

One thing to consider.

If you have a zone, lets call it zone A, that is worth 100 points.

Then you have another zone, lets call it zone B, that is just zone A with a connecting passage to a duplicate of zone A, how many points is that worth? Is it worth 200 points?

How about if you have a quest that takes 2 of the end item from zone A? How many points is that worth? Probably not 200. But it took the person just as long to get it as it took the person doing zone B, and the person doing zone B got a better item. There's a big part of the problem right there.

But I'm sure you all already know that, and are fixing it. Cause dammit, I like the gods here, and they know they screwed up, and they'll fix it, cause they're cool like that.

Its actually much more complicated than that, and less arbitrary. Unfortunately its not my place to provide any more details.

It took me a long time to get a pair of these..

Something has got to be seriously wrong if they are gonna be not even on par with other bracelets. They suck now, all that work for nothing. I guess I'll save them as a momento. Maybe things will change again slightly for quests.
