Wish I could, but my choices include subsidized apartments that I'm too "rich" for, a $900/month townhouse or some $800/month crappy apartments. :( I can also stay roughly the same distance from work for something like $650/month.... as opposed to my current apartment which is $455/month. :(

Unfortunately my current apartment sucks, so I'm definately moving... it's just that all the options are depressing.

honda is vastly overpriced and overhyped in the scooter market

the suzuki burgman 400 is the top selling scooter in the world (in the above 250cc bracket). and it costs as much as the 250cc honda's with more storage

you might be thinking 'i dont need 400 cc', but if you arent familiar with riding two wheels in r-tard american traffic it's better to have the extra power available in an emergency than not.

I'm thinking about buying a low-cc motorcycle to commute to work. Right now, my car is so expensive to drive on surface roads that it's practically a business decision.

depending on your weight:

if it's your first ever motorcycle - start with a kawasaki ninja 250 (http://www.kawasaki.com/Products/Detail.aspx?id=263) or kawasaki vulcan 500. (http://www.kawasaki.com/Products/Detail.aspx?id=272) around $3k and $5k respectively. ideal for beginners. however you will replace either in a year if you stick with riding

if you are on the heavy side, consider the kawasaki vulcan 900 or suzuki c50t

scooter wise suzuki gets you the best bang for the buck in the Burgman 400. aruond $5900. the burgman is the top selling scooter in the states (2007+ models) due to it's reliability, under seat storage (two full face helmets, about 64 liters. can fit one of those soda cube packs), plenty of power to haul a 250 lb man around san francisco without a hitch and can maintain 75mph on the freeway if needed. gets about 50 mpg depending on how aggressive you ride. 24% of burgman owners are women.

i got a vulcan 900 classic two weeks ago. my first bike. totally in love with it, and it's 46 mpg. it was $6400 out the door

And because I just had to click on the Teflor responses from a while back, I wanted to add something.

Microsoft's certifications have NOTHING to do with security or networking.

MCSE is a joke. Obviously you have one because you're defending it, or you're just completely oblivious to the fact that Microsoft could give two shits less about what's on the other end of your Cat-5E cable. I'm sure kiryan would agree here.

Come play with the big boys (kiryan and myself) and get something Cisco. CCNA, CCNP. Get certified CISSP gold-standard.

Give it a rest man, really. Go argue about the economy or philosophy or something else you use Google on to look smart. This arena is off-limits, because you've been called out more than once now.

I look at MCSE like a degree in French Art History.

Oh, you have one? That's... that's really great. Do you have any relevant experience?

I don't have one. Are you done flapping your jaw about things you know nothing about? It's true that microsoft does not offer networking certification, but go ahead and tell me how many critical corporate networks there are out there don't have a windows domain sitting on it.

Yeah, that's what I thought. What do you have now? Still wrong on the cable modem routers thing, btw, and not looking any better.

Running 2k or Server 2k3 is not the same as a router/firewall with an ACL. You're comparing apples to oranges. I'm done with you, even Kiryan has stepped in and told you what's up so go on living in denial. What's the zip code there, anyway? I'll send you a postage card with a free cluepon.

You should be more done with yourself. Servers run many routing and firewall functions and routers aren't really that much different from servers anyway.

You can mail your cluepon, when you get one, behind the racks, if you can figure out how to patch a cable.

I honestly don't have a response for that. Your stupidity in this thread really knows no limits. I'm going to pretend I didn't even read what you just wrote.

Wow...*shaking head*. Good luck with your mastery of Microsoft routing. Cisco FTW.

Far be it from me to ever respond to a Teflor-owned thread, but someone might read this and still be learning about computers. Xkcd said it best, "This is IMPORTANT! Someone is WRONG on the INTERNET!".

There is a fundamental and very clear distinction between a dedicated hardware appliance running a specialised operating system designed and optimised for packet filtering and routing, and a general purpose computer such as a Windows Server.

Regarding Microsoft and Operating Systems, things haven't actually changed much from when Windows NT passed its Common Criteria Evaluation (it passed, but only if configured on a machine with no floppy drive and no network connection). Microsoft have gotten very serious about Security over recent years, and have proved that they understand it (for instance, Active Directory is the only major enterprise directory server with a Kerberos core - for all its other faults, it can certainly provide a foundation for secure trusted third party authentication). However, little of that appears to filter into the Operating System. More importantly, they are not *trying* to emulate a dedicated router. They are making a general purpose computer. This is different to a Cisco router.

A sever and a router are different? No, really? /sarcasm

There are plenty of differences between a dedicated router, much like there are between a blackberry server and what you'd use for a SQL server, or even a print server.

Crack open that router you have, if you even know what you're looking at, and tell me what 1) kind of processors are in there, 2) how much ram the thing has, 3) what kind of persistant storage (a hard drive or flash memory), 4) what kind of power supply it uses.

And then tell me again that it's not a computer. The stupidity is entirely yours as your knowledge is actually beneath mine. To you, a router may *look* different, with a few extra network ports in it, and no monitor port, but in actuality, it is just a short-term memory storage server with a database containing routing information.

Look up the word "cache." Thanks for starting the personal attacks. You're still wrong about residential routers used on cable modems, and now you can't even say you understand what a router is.

You're the wrench-monkey that tries to tell people that a wheel bearing is somehow magically and fundamentally different from a trans shaft bearing. I'm the engineer telling you that they're both bearings. Deal with it.

Also: CAD sucks and you are a loser if you read it.

Only responded here because someone asked me in game to. Back to Gen Disc regularly scheduled programming:
