Back to school

Postby Lilira » Wed Aug 13, 2008 9:22 pm

I have much hatred for the reams of paperwork asking the same damn questions...

That is all.

PS: Imagine how many trees would be saved, not to mention man hours if people got their stuff together and entered it into one central computer for the school system.

Goofball. Scan it into your computer and just print it the next year.

My HATRED is when it says:

Birthday __, __, ____ Age __

Wtf. Answer one, and you've basically answered the other.

They changed it and added 6 more pages this year.

So you're saying the government should track everyone in a database?

Seriously, Sarvis? It's a damn school system, not the CIA. And yes, it would be very nice if I had the option of typing this stuff online rather than getting a Les Miserables sized packed of papers to sign every year -- many of which ask for the same information.

You realize the school system is part of the government right?

Really, I would have expected a more similar reaction from Corth...

Incidentally, I've occasionally thought that it would be nice for corporations to just set up a single master database that stores customer data. Then instead of filling out applications for whatever service we want, we just activate it and all the info is pre-filled except for the new services specific requirements.

Think of it, filling out forms would take seconds, we'd have very accurate census data, we could probably do real studies on all those aspects of society that are hard to track...

But then I realize there'd be a lot of power in the hands of whoever manages that database, right? It just... doesn't feel safe.

Ever hear of Transunion, Experian, and Equifax?

Not exactly helpful with filling out forms.. but plenty helpful in evaluating them!

As for the government.. hell, if I can live in a world where the IRS exists I think I can handle a local school district keeping tabs on me as well!

Companies that have very little real information about you, you mean? All they get is reports as to whether you paid on time or not.

Dammit Corth, you're the one who's supposed to be worried about the government taking over and creating the world of 1984 here! I'm the socialist, remember? :P

Dude, the credit reporting agencies have a LOT of information about you. Who you are, your social security number, where you live, where you lived in the past, who you lived with, public/court records, account numbers and amounts for each and every credit card, mortgage, etc. In many cases they know what you do for a living, as that is a factor in determining FICO score. Its a little bit scary how much information is available.

I'm not so concerned with government knowing who I am so much as I'm concerned with government thinking it knows whats best for me or taking my money and giving it to someone else.

1) Well then why don't experian et al. provide a services where they pre-fill all that information on applications for you.

2) Controlling what you do starts with knowing what you do. :P

I think there are already some services already available that will fill out an online form for you. But hey, you should take your idea to the credit reporting agencies. Might be some money in this!

My kids just went back to school yesterday. Three kids, three sets of paperwork! So glad Kiryan gave me two more kids. I get to fill out 5 sets of paperwork in 5 years. My hand hurts. And from writing, not for reasons Kiryan would like.
